Hello. I would like to know is it necessary
to place a fan on top of my viper v550.
I don't overclock this video card but
I do overclock my cpu. I haven't had
any video lockups or things like that but
the heatsink on the viper is rather warm when I touch it.

No, This board is designed to run very hot without problems.

Of course common sense should prevail. Don't put anything in the slot immediately next to it unless you have to. Make sure you've got lots of air pushing through the case.

A fan wouldn't hurt either.

To me, the words "rather warm" mean no problem. "Quite hot" is when I worry.

The review at tomshardware.com (http://tomshardware.com) offers some heat comparisons.

As long as your case is well ventilated everything should be fine. Ofcourse if you overclock your processor or card this changes things dramtatically.

Is there good airflow around the card?

Cheers
