Intel will bring 1GHz performance to low-budget PCs with new
Celeron chips to be unveiled Friday. The chipmaker will debut its
1GHz and 1.1GHz desktop Celeron chips Friday at its Intel
Developer Forum, sources familiar with the company's plans said.
Resulting PCs should follow shortly from major manufacturers for
prices around $900 for the 1.1GHz version. Some PC makers have
already begun advertising the PCs fitted with the new 1.1GHz
Celeron. For example, the 1.1GHz Celeron showed up on Dell
Computer's Dimension PC Web site Tuesday. Customers can order a
Dimension 2100 desktop with the 1.1GHz chip, 128MB of RAM and a
15-inch monitor for a price starting at $888.

Yeh those are Tualatin core celerons, won't even come close to a PIV/K7, they crippled it quite well....

oh god that is a stupid idea

as one who has felt the sting of buying a celery to find out it has 1/4 the L2 cache memory of a P2 and a system bus 33% slower than P2 i feel i must say something:
"buy any kind of celery and you are a total sap" i urge you plz not to buy this or you will find out when it's too late......

Some benchmarks here (http://www.tecchannel.de/hardware/633/3.html) in German but the numbers speak for themselves.

It appears that even the Duron 850 is outperforms the 1.1G Celeron. Who cares, the celeron will still sell 6x more than the Duron (what's a Duron?).

Not true Jixor, I'll take the celeron 300 over a PII-300. The true power of the celeron has always been overclockability. The Tualatin core is at 0.13um so theoretically we might see 133mhz FSB for some pretty high clockspeeds. That's only specualative though.....

Since the new Celerons are Tualatin cored, is it safe to assume that they won't run on most 815 (execpt for blessed Solanos...)? I ran into this prob with a PIII Tualatin on my board. After some reseach I found out I had a slightly older version of the 815 chipset... Unfourtunatly not the "NR" version.

Since those new Celerons use the "Tualatin" core, I think you should have either i815EP B-step mobo or the VIA Apollo Pro 133/266T to be able to use them.

1GHz celerons........I'd rather just go ahead and get a P3 Tualatin core. At least it'll be money well spent. I mean c'mon whats the point of buying it? More **** from Intels nonscencical cpu roadmap.

I don't think you gonna find many P3 Tualatins, since Intel targets Tualatin CPUs for mobile/server market (since P4 still lacks SMP platform). So soon desktop versions of P3 based on Tualatin core gonna disappear completely (like they were announced :) ).
