specs

1.2 T-Bird
asus a7v-133 mobo
256 mb pc133 sdram
antec tower case
52x cdrom
geforce 2 64 mb card
40 gb hard drive
hercules sound card

Problem:
I can only get my cpu to run up to 1.08 ghz
When i change the external frequency to 133mhz and restart my comp it fails to output to the monitor and it just sits there humming away.
So then i have to clear cmos and set external frequency to 120mhz.
i can't go one step higher!!
at 121 mhz it will do the exact same thing
Pleas Help!!

Thank you all in advance

Could it be possible that your 1.2Ghz T-Bird is 200FSB, not 266FSB? I hear that some T-Birds come with unlocked multipliers. If there is a marking with "B", it's a 200FSB. And if there is a marking with "C", it's a 266FSB. You might want to check the marking in the CPU...

Nope its the 266 version

I know http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
He's got the A7V, it has the KT133 chipset, it can't run 133mhz FSB, that's why they released the KT133A. I think your going to have to change the multiplier or get a new board...sorry:

http://www.pcboost.com/product144.html

Here is the website that i got my mobo from

it definitely supports 133mhz fsb

Tydog99:

I'm having the EXACT same problem with my Athlon 1.2GHz "C"(266) .. can't get the FSB past 120 at all, the system just won't POST up... I've been told by several ppl that this may be because of my below average wattage on my power supply (5V + 3.3V = 165W) So you may want to check that. My 1.2 cam unlocked, so I'm actually runnnin it @ 1320MHz right now (11 x 120. I plan on getting a new power supply, and bringing down the temp of the cpu a bit more. Then I'll try 133 and higher.... hope this helps... I'm still looking for an easier way out to tell you the truth, but it looks like i have no choice...

So your basically telling me to just increase the voltage and not the fsb?

Do u know what the recommended power supply is for the 1.2 t-bird??

Thx alot

I'm not sure of the wattage that AMD recommends for the 1.2 GHz, but I think it should be 300W for CPUs running higher than 1GHz. I'm running the 1.2GHz C with a Enlight 300W PSU.

Im stilling looking for ideas on fixing my problem!

Have you tried setting it to 100x12 1.75v and see if it posts? After that, try setting it to 110x12 and see if it posts at 1.32GHz,(as stated above) but you will probably have to increase the voltage to about 1.8v maybe.

Ok i am going to try increasing the voltage but not the fsb.

Should i worry about overheating the processor when i do this?

When you up the voltage you up the temp. A good fan would be a wise decision. What type are you using? Just watch the temp.....! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif
I don't understand why you would have to increase your voltage more than 1.75v if the processor is a 266 FSB and your MB supports it. ???? You should be able to pop it in and it should be running at 9x133 1.75v. Strange...................

Thx for everything guys

I dont think my power supply is the problem cuz i have a 300w power supply so i went ahead and just upped the voltage from 9.0v to 10.0v and now i am running at 1200 mhz.
but i am stilling running the fsb at 120.

Thx alot

Maybe the RAM is not acceptng the FSB change. Is it generic RAM? Is it rated for 133? Are the stick brands mismatched? Maybe there's a motherboard to RAM brand incompatibility.

10v!!!!!!!! How hot is that thing running? Man, I've never exceeded 8.5v!!! I don't know if I would trust 10v. That's a bit high.
Something's gotta be wrong.

I would check your memory the A7V133's dont like some types of memory even if it is PC-133 I had a problem with mine using micron -7.5 chips had to change it out for micron -7 chips now It runs great

I am going to buy some more ram this weekend so i can try that. Right now it is running at 60 degrees Celsius. Because this is so hot i turned it back down and waiting to get the new ram.

Are you sure you don't mean a MULTIPLIER of 10 and not VOLTAGE of 10.

The reason I think that this is what you really mean is because you said "from 9.0 to 10.0" and I highly doubt default voltage was at 9.0V!

Holy **** that would be some serious electric potential!

My bad i meant multiplier from 9.0 to 10.0

Sorry for the confusion

mobo 34 degrees celsius
