My roommate just went to fry's and bought a motherboard AMD combo. We put it together but I noticed that when it booted up it read only 900 mhz. I didn't think that you had to change any settings but Fry's says that you have to change it in the BIOS (wouldn't that be overclocking it?).
Any thoughts?

Its not overclocking until you go past the capabilities of the chip that it was sold as. My mobo was the same it read my 1ghz at 500 mhz until I made a change in Soft BIOS.

What is happening is that you have a CPU that is made for a 133mhz front side bus (fsb). the multiplier is locked or set at 9 times the fsb, and your motherboard is using a 100 fsb, giving you 900 mhz. Depending on the model of the motherboard, there might be jumpers on it that change the fsb or settings in the bios. In either case, it should be set to 133 though.

Thanks guys, that was exactly what I had to do. I just changed the jumper settings on the mobo. It helps to read the Manual but I can't help it.. I don't even stop to ask for driving directions.
Plus if I ever need a question answered I just need to come to this site!
Thanks again.
