You can't push the Tyan 1598 past 100fsb. You have to use the multiplier. If it didn't hit at 5x100 @ 2/7v. I'd say that you're out of luck. You could try lapping the cap or pooping it off to get the temps down, and try again.

That thing should do at least 500. You have to set the multiplier to 5x to get there. Did you forget something?

Okedoke, and thanks for the input. I kinda figured the Tyan wouldn't do over 100 mhz fsb, but some will...and the jumpers are not documented in the manual.
Yup, I did the 5 X 100 bit, and got it to 500 mhz ok...and on a drive I had that I use to test boards with that already has Win98 loaded...it did fine at 2.7 Vcore...seemed stable, but then I started in with the new hard drive, fdisked, formatted and started loading Windows. I hit so many snags that I finally gave up and returned it to 4.5 X 100, and its purring like a kitten ever sence. So, I wouldn't put it back after that, and I think probably 2.8 or 9 might make it stable enough, but I am not gonna go buy a better HSF to do that with, with K6-2 500s at $29 bucks now, and coming down...I would just get a new cpu first.

JCB, how do you know that the Tyan cannot be pushed beyond 100 mhz fsb?...has it been tried to your knowledge?.
I see at least 2 jumper settings that are not listed in the manual as used. This was the same with my FIC 503+, except when I bought it, there was a loose page attendum that noted the extra jumpers that were not on the page in the book.
If you, or somebody knows that these extra jumper settings will not create a higher fsb, good enough...but, they just might work.
Here is what is listed in the manual:
There are three...3 pin blocks.
-----------JP4----JP5--------JP6
60 mhz = 2 to 3, 2 to 3 and 2 to 3
66 mhz = 1 to 2, 2 to 3 and 2 to 3
75 mhz = 1 to 2, 1 to 2 and 2 to 3
83 mhz = 1 to 2, 2 to 3 and 1 to 2
95 mhz = 2 to 3, 1 to 2 and 1 to 2
100 mhz= 1 to 2, 1 to 2 and 1 to 2
This leaves 2 possibles:
-----------JP4-----JP5--------JP6
Unk mhz = 2 to 3, 1 to 2 and 2 to 3
Unk mhz = 2 to 3, 2 to 3 and 1 to 2

I have a K6-2 450 on a Tyan S1598. I tried to O/C to 500 by Vcore, but stopped at 2.7 volts. The reason for that is, the machine is for my daughter in another state, and I do not have a HD sink to put on it for the increased heat from higher Vcore.
If I O/C by fsb (and I am not certain at this point if the Tyan will go over 100 fsb, its not documented in the manual) do I still need to raise Vcore?..
I have not tried any O/C by fsb, and don't recall reading anything about that concerning Vcore voltage.
Thoughts?
