Hello,
I purchased a new motherboard and tried configuring my ISA PnP Sound Card ( ESS 1868 ). Now Windows detects it and it even
installed the hardware but the volume was always at the lowest. even if i tried to increase it, the volume control would slide to the lowest position. Now what could be the problem? pls help asap..
thanx in advance.

buitenb,
That really wasnt an answer to this person's predicament..Just telling someone to go out and buy something different doesnt really solve the problem if the person doesnt have the resources to just go out and buy something different everytime there is a prob...Of course we all know that the newer generation of audio hardware can run circles around old sound cards, But we have to remember that there are many reasons for others to be still using older hardware...
By the way, Im not trying to be a hardcase here It's just my opinion that answers like this can sometimes discourage those that are new from further asking questions and seeking help and knowledge... http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
dontknow,
Have you tried updating the drivers to the newest ones available for that soundcard? Is the mobo proprietary ,meaning that you would have to check the manufacturers site for available fixes and/or updates? And speaking of manufacturers, have you checked out ESS's website for common probs and answers? Have you checked the device manager in safemode to see if there are any ghost entries (extras of the same entry and if you find them delete the extras)? Could it be possible that you might have some type of software that might be hijacking the audio codecs somehow?
Also, more info about the mobo and your current config (system specs) can also help others to troubleshoot this prob...
I know it wasnt exactly an answer to your prob but in the very least I hope that it might shed some light on your situation... http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
