I've got a 1Ghz AMD Tbird 266FSB being cooled by an Alpha PAL6035(delta fan) with Artic Silver II.
In regular windows use its running around 50C, and under load it gets to 53C. This seems a little hot for a pretty good heatsink, isn't it???
I installed the processor myself, and wondering if maybe I didn't do it correctly or didn't apply enough Artic Silver. Shoud I try redoing the installation of the heatsink???
Thanks
Tom

Didya put the fan on in suck or blow position?
Is there a shroud around the h/s and is it on properly?
Did ya by any chance get the pressure point of the mounting clip flipped around to where it isnt centered over the die?
Look closely at the Alpha instruction sheet and make sure it all looks proper, if you have to take it off and remount it, do it carefully...

I've tried both suck and blow, really no difference; and there came no shroud with the heat sink.
I followed the Alpha instruction pretty well I think, but what do you mean by "Did ya by any chance get the pressure point of the mounting clip flipped around to where it isnt centered over the die?"
Although I just though of a question, I'm just supposed to apply the Artic Silver to the little square sticking out of the AMD chip right, I don't apply it to the whole base of the heat sink??? It does say on the Alpah instruction to apply thermal grease to the base, they mean the Artic Silver right???

place a SMALL amount of artic silver on the CORE of the processor than smoothe around the entire core with a very fine instrument such as a xacto knife or a heavy edged paper..take off the excess by wiping of the knife... dont place back unto the cpu's core
the heatsink and core were meant to touch face to face, the heatsink compond is nothing more than a filler for the bumps and pits on the surface of the core.
