Here's wuz up, I'm think of gettin' a laptop computer. Since I don't have a lot of $$$, I'd like to trade some of my stuff for it.

Here's what I'd have to give up:

Modded CL Annih Pro DDR 150/350
64mb PC133 Siemens 7.5ns SDRAM
$80US
plus...$45 shipping costs.

Here's what I'd get in return:

Toshiba Tecra 730xcdt
P150 w/Mmx
12.1" TFT Actix Matrix (1024*768 max res.)
2.1gig HD (13ms)
48mb edo ram (16mb onboard + 32mb card)
Integrated 2mb video card
Integrated 16-bit Crystal sound card
Integrated 28.8k modem
Internal 10x cdrom drive
External 3.5" floppy drive
10BaseT PCMCIA NIC
1 Li-ion battery
1 power adapter
1 battery charger
Carry case

Now, here's the the thing I don't like about the notebook - its the mouse.

You guys know those trackpoint pointers that normally comes with the IBM Thinkpads? Yes, its that little pointer that's placed in between the keyboard.

I prefer the trackpad, the one where I can use my finger slide it all over the pad and have precise control over the mouse.

Question is - how do you guys find the trackpointers? Would I be able to get used to it after a while? I find it that the pointer stick is hard like a rock and movement is lacking the accuracy I need.

Sorry for the lack of correct term for the mouse.

Thanks in advance,
Plucky

Well plucky, I have an IBM and I got used to the track point, I have tried the "pad" type, and I don't like it much myself, I also didn't like the trackpoint, but like I said, I got used to it.

Where are you trading to or with? I have some very out of date components and would like to maybe trade it for a little deal in a newer Laptop.

*edit* It sounds like a good deal to me!
But then again I'm kind of new to this stuff!

Plucky

I use a thinkpad at work and have a dell latitude with the touchpad at home. I actually prefer the IBM stick to the touchpad, but I guess it ends up being a matter or personal preference.

Pluck, I'm not up to speed on the value of the items, so no opinion there.

But as to the mouse - I've got a Compaq laptop with a built in trackball that I loathe! To get around it, I just keep a serial mouse in the carry case. Cheap & easy fix.
If all else is good, I certainly wouldn't let the mouse kill the deal.

Ed - doesn't having to use an external mouse kill the *portability* idea of a notebook?

Well, I guess I could give it a try. If it doesn't work for me, I'll just do what Ed does.

Thanks for the suggestions guys.
Love ya..

Well that shipping is realistic considering it is to Canada. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

As for the mouse, I would recommend an extra mouse w/ any laptop since you can get pretty small ones. Both laptop pointers have big downsides. The track pad loses accuracy with time as oil builds up. Not much you can do about that. You can clean it (often) but it still is a pain. Teh other option is plain difficult to get used to and manuever. Once you get the hang of it (which I haven't since I rarely use them) I suppose it would be second nature.

Well, it's not like I have to use the external one - I prefer it. The trackball works fine, its just too tiny.
I do see your point, though, especially since you're getting an external floppy. It can add up to a lot to lug around!
