You guy talk about FSB.....is that anything close to AT Bus? And if so how....

Ok i'm going from a 166mhz rated Pentium....and i want to up it to 180 first to test it.. i would have CPU speed of 60
and a Internal Clock speed of 3X equalling near 180......What voltage should i use....i have 6 options
3.5
2.9
2.8
2.7
3.3
2.5

if anyone could help me out...please do so...and once again i'm fairly sure by doing some internet surfing during 2nd period English ....i 'm fairly sure i have a Pc Chips Mainboard....and it has chip set i430VX.....thanks Jeff.....(I'm fairly good with this stuff although i;m 16 so use all computer terms needed or to be asked for.....) Computer Whiz wannabe....!

FSB is Front Side Bus on your motherboard. By raising your FSB you overclock your CPU (FSB x multiplier = speed). I'm not sure your combination will work but I've never o/c 166 so someone else will have to answer that.

Try upping the voltage step by step and see what works for you. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

I forget what the bus speed max is for a VX chipset board, but I think it may be 66 mhz. If so, then the only way to O/C it would be thru the multipliers and Vcore. If the multiplier settings can be determined, and which jumper does what, and you know what the Vcore should be at stock speed...ie...166 mhz, then try a small Vcore increase, like mayne .1 volt if available, and the next multiplier upwards.

If it is now running at 166 mhz on a 66 mhz bus, it is set to 2.5 X...set the Vcore up just a little, and try 3.0 X multiplier, which if it works, should give you 198 mhz. 3.5 X should give you 231 mhz if it will go that far. A little more Vcore voltage may have to be applied to get it to work, but it will generate a lot of heat, so a good HSF will be in order.

So, you will just have to experiment and see what you can do with it.

Good luck

Hey guys thanks a lot.....I did this befor ei even read your msgs.....

FSB i knocked down to 60mhz and multiply by 3.0 that the highest multiplier....

and 200mhz will be the highest i will get i know.... Any suggestions on a cheap but effective hsf? Just wondering....lol..and i got so into this...i even started making a water cooled one....lol...
