downloaded norton utility with cpu moniter. setup alarm at 100%. opened up a program and the alarm went off. have a pII 400 64ram 6gighd. think its time for an upgrade? was reading mobo manual(lpretty much greek to me) andit said i can upgrade to a pIII. also have one ram slot open.hd is almost maxed also. i have about 1.25gig left. am VERYnew to computing,but am learning every day thanx to all of you.would like a few opinions on upgrade,if its worth it,or buy new(either whole system or components)

i dont know what the program you are referring to does exactly, but even with a faster cpu, i think some programs will always make you hit 100% cpu usage when opening..as for an upgrade, another 64 of ram,or if you only have 1 slot left go for a 128mb stick..if your present motherboard can accept a pIII your good for the future, i myself dont see why you would need to upgrade too much more,except your hard drive, 6.4 gig is probably only using udma33, whereas a faster 7200rpm ata66 drive will speed you up..it's all a matter of what you do on your pc.and your cash situation http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif good luck..
