I can tell you you can't use an Athalon Duron or P4 because they are packaged differently. You MAY be able to use a faster Celeron or a PIII but I don't know if you can or not E Machines are not known for upgradeability.

Ok then.
Also if the above isn`t possible which mobo should i go for to run a 1.2 gig athlon or similar?

You need more than just a motherboard your power supply will not handle an athlon and you will most likely have to replace your case I think you have on board audio and video so you need sound and video cards,I guess what I am saying is you will almost have to start from scratch.

`ve just been told on another forum that i can put a P3 straight in as long as i don`t go above 900Mhz!
Is this true or not???

If the info came from someone who is familiar with your model it could be true,a PIII FC-PGA will fit and your board might be able to handle it.

You cannot use an Athlon or a Duron on a motherboard designed for an Intel Cpu (Pentium or Celeron). Maybe a faster Celeron
or a P3 but no AMD. Pentium 4 will not work
on that board either. Check e-machine's website for a BIOS update.
