I know that the Asus A7V will not run a FSB at anything over 110MHz but I was wondering if there was any reason for the new 266FSB to not run on my A7V board? I know it won't run at 266FSB but will it run at all? I don't see any reason for it not running ok.
The reason for the question is that right now the 1.2T-bird (266FSB) is cheaper than its 200FSB counterpart!

Many thanks

I'm not sure. I've read you can run the 200MHz parts at 266MHz, but I haven't heard anything the other way around.

The only thing I can see is that the multipliers on the 266MHz CPU would be different. But then again that shouldn't affect it either. I would think that if you have the BIOS set up correctly it would run just fine.

I've been thinking about the same thing.

Has anyone out there tried this yet? Running a 266MHz Athlon on a KT133 chipset?

Never tried, but don't think it will work. Let's say, 1 GHz T-Bird with 133 MHz FSB is default 133x7.5, when you put it on KT133 (100 MHz FSB) board, the multiplier is locked so you would get only 750 MHz, and underclocked CPUs hardly boot.
Anybody thinks different ?

But if you unlock it with a pencil you will be able to change the multiplier right?

Precisely what I wsa thinking Gyoung. Just change it to 12X100 instead. It doesn't make a huge difference and if you upgrade your Mobo you have a processor that's more than happy at 133mhz FSB.

Ok I have a T-Bird 850Mhz on a A7V KT133 and I have 196Mb of PC100 ram! If I am reading this right does this mean I am not really geting all the speed out of my CPU becasue of the Ram speeed or does this just affect T-Birds that run on 266mhz buss?

thank you guys

hmmmmm from reading this I think It will run ok...but would love to have a response from someone who has actually done it..!!!

Unlocking cpu is dead easy....never had a prob with my 600 Duron pencil unlocked. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
