What was your favorite year and why?
Mine was 1973. I got my first car (a screaming '67 Camaro), got accepted to college and met the girl who eventually became my wife. And I was much younger and a lot thinner!!!
Ahhhh, what a year!!!
[I figured I'd change the mood from some of the more serious threads in the past few hours.]

I guess I would have to say it was 1996. It was my last year of college, I had a drop dead girlfriend from UGA and very few cares in the world.

1917 was a good year- my company got contracted to make some enfields for you yanks (hehe, you couldn't make enough of them stupid 1903 springfields!). We got to charge pretty hefty fees as we had to retool to 30-06 on a relatively obscure design.
1917. Only 83 years ago. When I was 19 and pa had just died. Mom was only 43... Dad left behind a failing business, a widow, and three babies for ME TO TAKE CARE OF!
!917 was a good year- I became a man.

This is a tough one. I shall depart from convention (translation: break the rules) and list my 3 favorite years:
1954: I was born - great year!
1986: Passed the Bar Exam in Boston, MA
1989: Married the greatest gal alive

Nineteen Hundred & Sixty Ei8ght. The U.S. was alive then. The war was bad but the country has been on a downhill slide since that fabulous year. No one had computers. You had to get out and make your own fun and good times. People communed instead of chatting on the net. Concerts in the park, the music was good but secondary to the purpose. Anyone here ever been in a "BE IN"??? the world was your monitor and the streaming media were real people, places and things. No polution controls on cars. A Big Block Chevy sounded
like a 747 lifting off. And the chicks, now that's a whole item all it's own http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gifI could go on and on. Yes 1968 what a year!!!!!
tony...thanks for the post, it has brought back many good memories. A fine way to start off the weekend. Think I'll go out in my El Camino, put in a Beach boys tape and imbed some rubber in the asphalt!!!!!!! Later http://www.sysopt.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Pickel, good choice! Except that music from the summer of '67 was the greatest of all time!!!!

Well, I kinda figure 2000 is gonna be the start of the best years of my life http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif. Before that, I guess it would be 1987 when I got my first computer, a Sinclair ZX Spectrum 48k. According to Bryan Adams, the Summer of '69 was the best, seeing as I love the song, I guess I'll have to take his word for it!
So far 2000 has been pretty good to me, fingers crossed it will continue!

1974 - bought my first car, a 1968 Austin-Healey Sprite that wasn't running for $250. To this day I don't know why he sold it so cheap. Fixed 'er up, new brakes, rebuilt the carbs, installed a great stereo system (8 track - best thing there was) and a spray can paint job.
I was in heaven. Drove that car for 5 years and ended up selling it to some guy who just had to have it. Now I wish I never sold it.
1990 mine, I got I got clean & sober http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
Well, this is starting pretty good, but last year actually was the best I've had so far...
I can't think of one bad day!
At all!
This years pretty good too...so far (knock knock...)

i am not sure.... in all reality, i cannot have a "favorite" year yet, since i am only 15... i have my whole life ahead of me, so i can't truely pick the favorite "out of the bunch"...
but, i guess if i had to pick a fav, then mine would be 1996... i was "still a kid"... i still had not had a self-realization... IOW, i was completely oblivious to myself (i.e. i didn't care about what i looked like, how i appeared to others, etc)... i was completely care-free...
but it was a very sad year as well... and it was sad for the exact same reason... i knew not of myself, or rather i blocked out the truth... i denied all things that were "oooky" (or bad, for those of you who don't remember their childhood)...
you see, at the time, it was the height of my parent's arguing and just a few months before they seperated, and about a year before they divorced... to be clinical, i was in denial... of my self, of myself, and of what was going on around me... (and BTW, "my self" and "myself" are different. just think about it...)
according to other people (and i mean ALL other people), it was one of the happiest years of my life, but, in fact, it was the poorest and saddest times of my life... yeah, i was "having the time of my life", but i was hurting soooo much inside...
well, i'm sorry for going on like this (and for going VERY off the topic), but i guess i just wanted to disclose the full truth of why '96 was (and wasn't) my favorite year...
so, to conclude, '96 was my favorite year, despite all the sorrow and hurt i was going through...
anywayz...

How about 1969 ???? Sure, Nixon was President but gas (Sunoco 260) was about 30 cents a gallon, nobody had heard of Bill Gates or Microsoft, and the old time hardware engineers won when we landed on the moon. I graduated high school that year. Too bad that my senior trip turned out to be Viet Nam.
