I've got an ABIT KT7-RAID paired up with a Duron 700 that just is giving me fits.

ALthough mostly stable, it'll crash at the conclusion of 3DMark2000 and 2001 without fail. It also is locking up randomly at a few other points. Here's the system:

ABIT KT7 RAID
Duron 700
Diamond MX 300
GeForce2 Pro
Win98SE

I've tried the following:

Used Via 4-in-1 drivers 4.26, 4.28, and 4.29

Turned off AGP 4X
Turned off PCI Write Delay
Raised RAM timings to maximum (slowest) speeds
Used NVidia drivers: 7.58, 7.17, 6.72, 11.00, and 12.00
Disabled Sound Blaster Emulation
Disabled USB support

I still cannot fully stabilize this system. Does anyone know why, or have any tips?

You didn't mention if you have a sound card installed. If you do, and it just happens to be a SB Live! series card, there are known issues with the card and the KT133a chipsets. I have even read of some crashes that have been traced to the SB Live! card on Intel BX chipset boards.

If by chance you do have this card, pull it for a day or two and see if that helps.

I've been having a few problems with my KT7A Raid. It will lock up, the BIOS won't post properly, I'll even be in the BIOS looking at the temp on the CPU and it will freeze. I have a post already here about OVERHEATING??

I'll post what I find there. I use a SB Live.

I have some problems also with my kt7 raid and duron 700 at 1050mz. I have some missed matched memory, pc133 but can only run it at pc100 speed-I here that running one 256 mb pc 133 is a good idea. I run a lot of programs at one time so I keep running 448mb of memory. I think it really is a motherboard defect built in to the motherboard! THERE is a ton of mis info on this board, no bios up date fix;s these bugs, I tried three or four of them.My idea is just to run it where it keeps going with smallist lock ups-the only solution i can come up with, My other idea is to buy nothing until better parts are made, except for a upgrade to althon chip which may help a bit. I just cleaned my heatsink up and switched the way my duel fan alpha pep 66 blows with copper heat sink, I had much less problems with a k3 450+ at 600,.

I've got an MX300 card, not an SBLive--and yes, it is installed.

Didn't the aureal vortex boards have problems with the KT133 chipsets??? I know that my vortex 1 board absolutely refused to work with my Abit KT7.

I have an ABIT KT7-RAID with a TBIRD-900@1050 and a soundblaster live value. I disabled the SB16 emulation in system devices after trying just about everything else. It is now rock solid steady with a 24/7 uptime of 10 to 14 days. Win ME. Try disabling the dos emulator of your sound card. One other thing I saw on the alt.comp...periphs.abit newsgroup was a suggestion to space your PCI cards and make sure one is NOT in slot 5. I think its 5. Will check to make sure. Space them by skipping PCI slot 1, 3, 5 and so on. If you put a card next to your soundcard you might need to dedicate an IRQ to it. The PCI slots share IRQs with other slots. I am not sure which ones but I think I saw it on the ABIT website in support or maybe in manual.

The PCI switching did the trick! She's stable now. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
