I posted in steals & deals about a IBM athlon 500mhz unit,, somewhere I think I read that this cpu is o/c'able to 650mhz or more. Is there any bugs with this first edition of Athlon ?? any info appreciated.. DrVette

Good? It's going to be anywhere from very good to VERY, VERY good depending on what week it was produced.
Overclockable to 650? No. Odds are it IS a true 650mhz rated core, which would mean it is overclockable to 750 or 800.
Outpatient is quite right here. Tell us the week it was made and we'll give ya a good reading on the speed.

Aaaggghhh,, WHAT WEEK !!! It's kinda hard to see the thing cause it's still sitting in a warehouse somewhere USA.. Seriously, I haven't bought it yet with all the hubbub about 1ghz cpu's on the way I wondered if I would be spinning my Hoosiers by getting "just" a 500mhz unit.. Remember it's a IBM, so corporate America may have placed something in it to tell if I over-rev the poor little thing.. Does the fact that it's in a IBM case with a "who knows" mobo cast any shadow on this model ?? I got a IBM 2170-832, 475mhz AMD, 64ram, 13.5 @ 7200 HD and I'm pleased with it, so far,($574.00) Is there any way to get info on something like this, a IBM so far away,, ?? thanks folks,, DrVette
