Heyal,
There were some great deals recently that I found here and on other searches about AMD processors and when I was talking to local store they got my attention with some problems with AMD returns.
I spoke to AMD and info was confirmed that if the AMD processor wasn't purchased from an authorized distributor that they would in no way take back the defective cpu.
She also said she recently spoke to someone back East that purchased bulk amount and were bad, AMD wouldn't and couldn't do anything for him.
One neat thing is that AMD offers "Samples" but they give them to their distributors and the distributors can give them to those who ask. Now I haven't received a list yet of which Distributors have available samples but when I learn something more I'll be sure to let yal know.
Well I thought this might be some good info and I hope it was ok to post here. If not please let me know and I'll figure out how to move to which ever topic is better.
Thank you,
SB

Hmmm...interesting. I guess when you compare the price of an AMD processor to that of an Intel, the AMD must be considered a 'throwaway' unit..Kinda like TVs today, you can buy a (cheap) TV cheaper than have one repaired.

While their policy does state that there is no warranty on oem chip's they can and do replace them. (I have a duron sitting right next to me as proof of that.)

They will replace processors. I purchased one from a store. It went bad about 9 days later. The store refused to take it back..LONG STORY... So I called AMD and they gave me a new Processor in exchange for my old one. Took about a week. No fuss, no arguments, great people to work with.

heyal,
AMD stated MUST BE AUTHORIZED RESELLER/DISTRIBUTOR,
I would think the store was if not don't know and I am just sharing some useful information that came from AMD's mouth...voice even.
It wasn't posted for argument just something that was relayed and I thought was pretty important since I and many others are shopping and looking into some sweet deals that include the AMD processors.
I wouldn't want something to go wrong after spending $$$ on it to end up bad nor would others.
So just for the info use it or disregard it its up to you as individual.
For any futher disregard for my posting feel free to call AMD:
AMD 1-800-222-9323
408-749-3060
408-749-0300
This way you get it from them instead of distrusting the info I posted.
NOTE: This and previous posting regarding information of AMD policy or precedures were not intended to be offending or misleading in anyway nor was there any intention to sway buyers users or prospective buyers away from their products. The information was intended to be read and used intelligently by the reader and by their own discression..to use caution in WHERE you purchase the CPU {retailer, individual} and that the Manufacture warranty may be jeapordized. This would be at buyers loss.
Thank you,

not to be a flamer but why did you not state that Intel has the same policy if your intentions were truely honest?
things that make you go HMMMMM
If you buy something OEM, you are SOL after 30 days no matter who you buy it from unless the dealer has a specific policy that gives you a year.
The no returns on bad chips is a distributor thing because they don't want to lose the comission on the sale.
Been through it personally with both Intel and AMD

Use the American Express "Blue" card to double the warranty if there is one posted, and you can return items even if the vendor will NOT take it back.

My Goodness,
Again and LAST TIME!
The reason I made the inquiry with AMD was because there was a great [few] deals on the Duron for $39.99 and up! When I spoke to local store which I was pricing for mobo and told her about the deal she told me about problem she had!
I didn't want to think that it was just her problem nor a larger scale problem on Manufactures not backing up there product SOOOOOOO I called to find out what they said on the matter!!!!!
Simply relaying what was said and OEM wasn't part of the question of return just simply that they had to be authorized distributors or resellers.
And as for not bringing up INTEL, I didn't call them nor did I find or hear of incident with them NOR did I find great prices like that of the DURON. Oh excuse me except in a few reviews and saying that Duron only 15% slower but much better pricing with equal quality and value.
Oh but then again that wasn't part of posting either.
Geeezzzuuuaaaaassssssssss
I try to pass on a tid bit of useful information and I get called liar in round about way and yal want to argue and add things or bring up things that didnt occur, or off set in anymeans I would think to appreciate information and not to be so poopy towards the HONEST information given!
Again I posted their Phone numbers call them, and see what they tell you other than that....geezzz
I am disapointed that I was expected to defend myself for information...geeez I don't need to defend myself I'll back up what I have to say or said but this is somewhat unexceptable behavior from yal., and mine to for having to post this.
Do yal always treat others this way? remind me never to send you gift you'd prob complain and step on it and tell the local news it wasn't good enough!
