It could be... But freezes often occur when your RAM is pushed too hard also.

It's got 256 megs of DDR memory in it, so I'm pretty sure I had some free.

I'm going to install 2 more fans in the front and see if that helps. I'll be back if it doesn't.

Did you grease your heatsink/fan?

Freezing could also be caused by a weak power supply, espeically on AMD sysems. What is the brand and the wattage of the supply?

I've got an Athlon Thunderbird 1.2Ghz with a GeForce 2 Ultra video card, only had it up about a week. Last night on two separate occasions it locked up. The first time was during a game, causing the sound card to skip like an old record while everything else was completely unresponsive. The second time I was just surfing the net, but the same "freeze" occured, where mouse, keyboard.. nothing would respond.
Could this be a sign of CPU temps that are too high?

I bought the processor/heatsink/fan combo from AMD through a friend who is a reseller and builds machines for a living. He recommended getting everything stock from AMD.

The powersupply is an Antec 300w, stock in the Antec Soho File Server, SX1030B

Also, my 1st Aid Hardware Monitor shows the tempature steady at 44C/111F with NO apps running... the machine freezes up at 120F. And this is with maybe 2 hours of minimal use (surfing, playing "The Sims", or Winamp).

Any other ideas?
