I`ve got an emachines 600d
600Mhz intel Celeron
64Mb RAM
128Kb L2 cache
10Gb HDD
How do i go about increasing the speed without changing the chip?
I would like to take it to approx 750-800 if possible also i would like it to be as stable as possible without burning out.

I haven`t got any idea of how to do this or where to look for any instructions,so any help that you could give would be great.

Right - crash course in celeron overclocking:

The front side bus (FSB)- carries data to & from the chip - is supposed to run at 66MHz for the celeron 600. The actual clock speed is obtained by multiplying the FSB clock by a certain number... 9 in your case to give 600MHz.

YOU CANNOT CHANGE THE MULTIPLIER!!! It is factory locked, so to overclock, you have to increase the FSB speed. Common options are 66MHz, 75, 83, 95 and 100MHz (for example).

HOWEVER!!!!!!!!!! Emachines are bad overclockers! They have little in the way of user adjustment when it comes to the likes of FSB speed.

You have several options: Stay with 600, try that SoftFSB program (be warned... it is LIKELY TO CRASH the computer if you give a wrong setting - so don't play after an hour's unsaved work), buy a faster chip or toss that motherboard out and get a decent one that lets you play http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
