Just wondering if this type of pIII is legit and how does it compare to it's 133fsb brother. Better overclocker?? I figure this would be my best option with my BE6 board and RAM I already own to reach a GIG.

Better overclocker?? I figure this would be my best option with my BE6 board and RAM I already own to reach a GIG. Missing the point 04-01-2001, 12:03 AM It would definitly be a better overclocker, but it depends on how far you are gonna overclock it. It isn't all the FSB. If you get a 133MHz FSB chip, you will have a faster overall system, and I don't know how high you would be able to overclock the 100FSB version. If you can get the 100FSB version up to 124MHz FSB, then it would definitly be worth it, but I don't know if you can get that chip to 1.24GHz...... If I was buying it for myself, I would get the 133MHz FSB version, and just minorly overclock it to 140MHz FSB or something. It is a plenty fast chip, and if you get a 100MHz FSB chip, and it DOESN'T overclock very well, you just cheated yourself out of a bunch of performance.... Anyway, the decision is yours, and I am sure you would want more opinions than just lil 'ol me http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif Tom Teriffic 04-01-2001, 06:41 AM ck, If your vidcard will tolerate the 133 FSB in the BE6 and you have the memory for it, I'd go the 133 route, simply because of the better memory bandwidth. The P3 core reportedly conks out somewhere around 1.1 Ghz anyway. If you have PC100 RAM, though and don't wanna spring for the upgrade, go fer it. On the other hand, I just got not one but two P3-700's (100 Mhz FSB) up over a gig in BE6-II's, so you may wanna save the money on the processor, use the difference on RAM and wind up with a 1 Gig P3 at 143 FSB. Just a thought. ck42866 04-01-2001, 07:49 AM I've been racking my brain trying to make the most economical decision possible. AMD was sounding pretty tempting but I really do not feel like opening up my box again for this type of upgrade. The 133fsb versions were also considered but I didn't want to take a chance with video card and I definitely wouldn't mind keeping my ram if I could. Staying with a 100fsb chip was my most viable option. I thought they maxed out at 850 but now that I've come across this GHZ chip, I am even more set on a 100fsb version. My next question is about my mobo again, will it recognize this chip? And oh BTW, is SECC2 the same as slot 1 and if it is, should I even consider a FCPGA verion? Thanks again for the help http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif Bulldog 04-01-2001, 10:41 AM Yes Secc2 and Slot 1 are the same thing basically. All Secc Cartridges are slot 1, there being two versions Secc and Secc2 I believe secc2 is the .13 chip compared to the secc chip beig .18. I have a P3 700 Secc2 chip running all day at 980. I could push it ,and have, up to 1015 and beyond but my cheap 133 fsb memory started to give me grief so I backed down to 143 fsb. I have a little advice though. If you are planning on overclocking it much make sure it's a cCo chip and your memory might be a bottleneck unless you go to 133 fsb memory. Right now they're giving the things away...almost. Good luck and have fun. ck42866 04-01-2001, 11:58 AM OK, so I can use this chip in my current slot 1 board. You are also saying that my RAM, PC100, might be the bottleneck if I try overclocking much. Cool, if the above is true. I really like OC'ing http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif but for the time being, at least until I get the OC itch again, I should be fine. And when that time comes, I'll just buy some good PC133 Ram to OC with. Shoot, I can probably trade this celly @ 850 for soem really good RAM. SysOpt.com
