i've had my celeron 400a overclocked at 450mhz for 2 years now with no trouble. it's faster somehow than my wife's k6-2 500.on my asus p2b mb i couldn't get any more speed. i got errors at 500 (83 fsb). a friend told me he heard of unlocking the multiplier on the chip by connecting certain circuits on the back of it. anyone ever heard of this? remember, your cpu is only as fast as the rest of your equipment.

The really good overclockers from that era were the 300A's and 366's. It was pretty rare to find a Celeron that would go better than 500-510, though, so that 450 may be as good as it gets for you. The multiplier unlock trick, if my memory serves, applied only to Pentium 2's from that time. It ivolved covering one of the edge connector contacts with something (nail polish, teflon tape?) and soldering in a small jumper wire. If you dig WAY deep at www.tomshardware.com (http://www.tomshardware.com) you may find the article detailing the process.
