Change W98 Startup Screen?

Does anyone know the correct file name for the Windows 98 Startup Splash Screen?

It is not "logo.sys", which might have been the one for W95.

Sorry my mistake. The startup file is logo.sys, it's in the main C:\ directory not the windows directory

In Win98 it is logo.sys under C:
Rename to oldlogo or something, then name new one to logo. That's what I did.

I know that is what it is supposed to be, but it is not there!

I'm setting up a system for someone and would like to change the screen, but the file logo.sys does not exist on that system or my own. However, the screen comes up so something is there, perhaps by a different name.

For those who want to do what Pickel says, and lots more, TweakUI is hidden on the W98 disk. >tools >reskit >powertoy >tweakui.cpl.

Hey Roy-
Just checking out my files, I didn't have a logo.sys either, but when I took a different loading screen (matrix) and labeled it to logo.sys, it changed to the new matrix loading logo.

For those who Use Windows98 SE and don't have the files "logo.sys" and "logow.sys", on their system might try setting the view to include hidden files.

Placing a bmp file renamed logo.sys in C:\Windows (where logos.sys and logow.sys are located) did not change the startup screen.

Placing the same file in C:\ resulted in NO startup screen, even though it was enabled.

I know this can be done, I hope I'm not the only one who will enjoy learning how.

Roy. FYI the "logo.sys, Logos.sys and Logow.sys" all must conform to a "size limit" . if you .bmp (that you renamed to "logo?.sys" is to large it will not work correctly (should be 320x400 pixels or smaller) and if the color scheme is wrong it wont work either. (256 color or lower only).

I have emailed a "startrek" startup logo that works just fine on my machine. Place it in your root directory of C.

though it may be the wrong file (cuz i think it is on my pewter), you could try the logo.sys file under "windows\options\cabs"... just a thought... if i do find anything on this topic, though, i will be sure to report back...

It is logo.sys, mine got moved to another partition on the drive when I installed Plus!
ie...it is now in d:\program files...maybe yours too?

Yes, I used to do this without problem in Win95, as all 3 of those files were in the Windows directory, but Win98 is different, as it seems to be a mystery that is creating confusion amongst members...

I'd like to change my startup screen; I've been looking at that 98 screen long enough. Time for a change...

Smokin1, yours is in the Plus! directory because when you install Plus, it changes the startup screen and adds the Plus! logo in the lower right corner, no?
