i picked up a new Golden Orb "Copy" fan today. i took my old Fan and heatsink off, applied some Silicon compound on the chip, and got the fan on there. i booted up and looked at my CPU temp and it showed 36 degrees C! i was like wow man!, this fan rocks! then i remembered ohhhh yeahhh, just booted, silly me. :P my temp now at stock speed and settings is 48C. thats not much of an improvement for $20!! i should have waited and gotten a nice, name-brand Fan and some Arctic Silver but stupid me bought a generic-copy of an Orb. On the front of the package it says "Great for Overclocking!!" now i say ha, bull****, overclocking my ***. i guess thats what i get for buying cheap, crappy, no-name fan. Do u guys think i didnt put enough Compound or what? should i order some Arctic Silver? i just wanna get the best outta my new fan, i spent $20 and now im mad.

Did you take the little plastic looking sheet of the fan before you installed it (the one you can use instead of the grease)?

These "orbs", genuine or copies are basically all show and no go. Look great but barely acheive minimum cooling. Check out the cooler review over at http://www.tomshardware.com
I've just ordered my 1 Gig Tbird & done a lot of research into coolers. One of the best coolers on the the market is the GlobalWin FOP32-1. Thats what I'll be getting. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

The FOP32 certainly is a good cooler, but pair it with a YS-Tech fan (not sure if this is standard spec) and it will be VOCAL!!!

Fact (from my experience): I received my Swiftech370 for my Athlon 1 week ago. I too had a orb wanna-be. That wanna-be kept my computer in the mid 40's... then i put a cheap $10 fan on cuz i thought that the wanna-be was broke, and man, it got to the high 50's!!! I put the swiftech on and that thing stays at 39. Usually, when monitoring, the cpu temp starts in the low 30's, then about every 10-20 seconds it goes up 1 degree, and ends up to the top temperature. The swiftech, SLOWLY reaches 39 on my PC (athlon 900 on ASUS A7V133). This is with a CLOSED case. On standby, my PC wakes up at 32 degrees!
