After Monday's "Senior Member Giveaway!" (http://www.sysopt.com/forum/Forum13/HTML/000540.html) which ended up with Mntsnow, Target, and myself putting a system together for charity, Codybear emailed me, offering to ship another machine for this! (A P120)

Instead, I suggested finding a local worthy cause. The result:

I called my daughters old preschool and I am giving it to them along with backups of my daughters games geared for that age group. I have an old 486 collecting dust that I think will work good enough also and the local boys club has about 50 old systems
sitting in storage I am going to try to buy and see what I can put together from all of them that may be put to good use also...

WAY TO GO, CODYBEAR!!!! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/biggrin.gif http://www.sysopt.com/forum/biggrin.gif

I asked his permission to tell of this, and the real purpose of this is to try to inspire others. Many of us have equipment gathering dust. A few phone calls will convert it from being clutter, to being an educational tool. In the process of looking for a "home" for the contest machine, I've found out that even 286's can be put to use. I've two that are going.

And what about the "obsolete" parts we've got laying around?
If we got together on this there's no telling how many 'puters we could assemble!

Ed

I think that this should make the front page, or at least the newsletter. It could offer some good publicity for Sysopt.com, and possibly draw more interest to similar efforts. I wish I wouldn't have sold off most of my old junk a few weeks ago (I'm not kidding, I'm down to just one PC myself http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif ), I might have done the same thing for one of my local schools. EXCELLENT job guys, as I know those computers are greatly appreciated. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

lowcpuuser..would they accept backups?? or will that be too close to the line of legal for them...they can always be copied to the harddrive and installed from there...I have many games from the time my daughter was 4 yrs old and up and most of them while they are fun they have an educational theme to them..I honestly believe it has been due to her interest in computers and the choice of 'games' I let her use that contributed to her scores on the fcat tests (14 ot of 14 in reading and 23 out of 24 in math) and she is the youngest in her class but also the only one to have her own computer set up for her use only..well dad cracks his rc5 on it but the point being that computers are the thing of the future and the more kids that can experience them at the earliest age the better off they could be if the use is geared to educational purposes and that comes with ones choice of games...

The boys club can not sell them to me but Our Lady Of Good Hope Preschool will gladly accept any and all contributions...ya'll CAN make a difference and it doesnt take much time nor much money...many thanks to Ed_S for the suggestion and its up to everyone here to do their part whether ya'll have kids or not you know someone that does and just think what it would mean to them...in this world you do and will reap what you sow...life will teach you that..I challenge everyone on sysopt to look in the closet and the 'junk' pile and no matter how small it may be put it together and to good use...like Ed said even a 286 will work when they have nothing..
