I'm looking for a 19" monitor for $450 or less delivered. This monitor looks good on paper but can't find any reviews. Nothing around here in town.
I'm hoping someone has some knowledge and assestment of this monitor. If you do,would you please post?
Much appreciated.

It is not really a bad monitor for the price. I have sold several Cybervision and they are really in good. I would recommend also Viewsonic, which has a very affordable line of monitors, Memorex (very good image and low cost) and Princeton Grpahics (one of the best monitors). Check prices at ww.pricewatch.com

ViewSonic's G790 is a good recommendation and it fits the budget. The Princeton AGX900 or the Phillips 109 is better but you'll probably have to add the shipping cost on top of your budget.
Also try http://www.pricescan.com/0101.asp as well as PriceWatch.

Thanks for the tips, everybody. I sure appreciate it.
ANTONIO, looks like you've seen a variety of monitors. Sounds to me that the CyberVision is promising and a good choice at that price range, correct?. Right now it's what have in mind. I'll still feel around from what you all said before I decide.Thanks.
bleeding,I'll look for some info on those monitors you mentioned. The prices are not bad at all specially if I wait a little and see if they'll drop some more. Thanks for the link too,a new one for me.
Nathan, WOW,did you do all that? Very nice! Good luck to you.Hope you sell all your ads. I'll be visiting your your site quite a bit, me still having a lot to learn. Thanks !
If you or anyone have anymore to add to help me make a good choice on a 19" monitor, please feel free.
It would be nice to have one with great text, graphis, color, and clarity.I think what i have now,a Compaq Presario 1525 (15") is really nice but what do I know.
Thanks again and have a great day.

How many MB of ram do you have on your video card? If you don't have enough, the monitor will not work properly.
Let us know.

hi Nathan,
I have an onboard 4MB ATI Rage Pro 2x AGP on my P2L97A LX board in my HP Pavilion 8275 PII-300.
I'm looking at replacing it with a BX board in Sept or Oct or maybe one of the "next generation?" boards that support CPU 500MHz and higher if they are available then, along with maybe a 4x AGP video card.
Should wait to buy a 19" monitor until then?

I think that 4 MB card will drive it. If someone here has that card and monitor, hopefully they'll post to let you know.
Another option is to E-mail the monitor company and see if that monitor will work OK with that card. The bigger question is will it give you the refresh rate at the color and resolution you are looking for. I would make sure it will. $450.00 for a 19" is a great price. But make sure that refresh is high like I mentioned on my site. At that price, it might not be. Are you sure this is new and not refurbished? Remember it doesn't do any good if your eyes get tired because of a low refresh rate. Do some digging and let us know.
If you will, post the refresh rates so we can see them. Maybe others will be interested in getting that monitor.
One more thought. If you are getting a better card with you new setup, then you should be in the clear. But again, check the numbers and make sure.
BTW, I'm glad you liked the site.

Hey there,Nathan
CyberVision C92 gives conflicting refresh rates in differrent websites:
1280x1024 79Hz,another says 89Hz
1600x1200 77Hz,another says 68Hz
shadow mask 0.22,another says 0.26
I wonder if they come in different picture tubes depending on your luck of the draw. I will call CyberVision for confirmation and specs if I decide on it.
I liked the EMC 19" PX988 I saw at Best Buy.
Proview, makers of EMC,could not say what kind of picture tube I would get in their PX988.I asked if it's a good idea to see the actual monitor and not just another of the same model before you buy and the rep said yes.
Following on everyone's lead, I'm now including the Hansol 900P, Optiquest V95, and the ADI Microscan 6P in my choices, mainly from what I read in other posts and costs. Unfortunately, I couldn't find the Hansol nor ADI websites to get some specs. Not even phone numbers.
Sorry for the long wail on this post.
I would appreciate some inputs from anyone about any of the 19" monitors above.
many thanks to all

Hi, Pushrod! In some models, Proview uses a Hitachi based picture tube. I don't know in that particular but you may check at www.pricewatch. I was checking prices there and they are great for monitors. About Cybevision specs, it is .26 dot pitch

Thanks Antonio,
Sometimes I just feel like getting one to get it over with. I used to live in CA and there are a lot more stores that have demos so you can see for yourself. Here in town,we're limited to the megastore chains like Best Buy and Circuit City.

Just be patient! Your eyes will appreciate a good monitor after long hours sitting in front of a computer.

Like Antonio said, be patient. Do your homework with the numbers. It took me three months to find the monitor I wanted. I paid $575.00 plus freight when other one's were going for around $400.00. I would do it all over again too. Take notes too. Put them on a spreadsheet or just right them out. When the numbers start bogging you down, leave it for a couple of days and come back to it. Take the emotion out of the situation and look at those numbers.
Another thing that might help you decide is go, travel if you must, and look at the monitors and see what screens are to your liking. Write down the model # and brand of it. Then go and check the other numbers on that model out. Some of the newer video cards will deliver 120 MHZ refresh rate at 1280 X 1024 resolution you may be having. It would be nice to have the monitor as close to that as possible.
Get the bear this time so it doesn't get you, if you know what I mean.

Antonio and Nathan,
Yeah. Fighting impatience is hard. I usually end up buying things twice. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif Thanks for the dose of cold water. I can think again!!!
Is 75Hz@1600x1200 and 85Hz@1280x1024 the minimum I should look for?
Chris,
We have a CostCo in town. Never even thought of looking there for computer stuffs until you mentioned it. I'll definitely look at their Sylvanias. Thanks dude.
dawgtuff,
How do you like your ADI 6P? How about giving me your assestment please please please. Really happy with it? Would you let somebody spend his last $400 he's saving for rent? http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif BTW, I'm happy for you. Congrats with the new tube. Thanks man.

Hi, everyone! Yes, at that size it should support 1600X... but you should think to invest in a good video card. The worst thing is to have an excellent monitor and a bad video card. It defeats the whole purpose. If you are planning that high resolution, get ready to invest in 8 to 16 meg of video card. By the way, I did photoretouching for a couple of years and never used that kind of resolution. Sometimes it is necessary to forget about number and specs and follow your eyes. If you like the image and it seems pleasant, give it a try. Make sure that you can return it if you don't like it.
Unfortunately many monitors are really overrated and we ended up recommending the same thing over and over because of the marketing.

What resolution are you going to run this at? 1600 X 1200 is pretty small on a 19" monitor. What are you using now? A 15" and at what resolution and colors? Keep in mind I bought mine without seeing the screen one time.
I don't know if you have seen the page below, but it's worth a look if haven't seen it. Keep in mind it's a 8 MB onboard card. Yours will deliver less because it's only a 4 MB card. However, that should deter you in getting a 19" monitor.

Hi Antonio and Nathan,
how are you all doing..
Currenty,to be honest, a rock-stable/flicker free monitor with good text and bright colors are my only criteria and dunno what else to want since I haven't done much with my computer (no photoshop,no gaming) other than bits and pieces of hardware.
My yardstick is my Compaq Presario 1525 15" monitor which impress me for its clear/clean screen, bright colors, and good text. I have returned a 15" Sony after a two-week trial prior to try the Compaq and it turned out to be a keeper. I guess it's a matter of taste.
After what's been said, I wouldn't even concern myself with 1600x1200 resolutions anymore. I need to cut down on variables or I'll go sane. I like the way things are now, not being required to explain much. You know how it is.
Thanks for all your help !!! You've all been great and patient. I'll let things simmer a while and take trips. Might as well enjoy it while it last! I'll post before I buy for last minute feedbacks.
Thanks again. SysOpt is great! I like it.
