Hi everybody!
My girlfriend has a system with a PII 266 and I want to give her a little boost since I have a BF6 laying around so I got her a Celeron 566. I was thinking of doing alight overclock but was curious about the generic PC66 she has in her system... How much is that going to hold me back? I want to ramp the fsb up to around 90MHz. What are your experiences with PC66? I don't want to spend more money, so getting PC100 is out for now.
Thanks
Dave

Funny you should ask. I just got done upgrading my dad's p233mmx to a 700 Duron. He had 2 32 meg pc66 chips. I went and bought him a 64 meg stck of pc100 and then stuck one of the pc66 sticks in just for fun. They co-habitate rather well. Two dimm slots is all he has, so he has one 64meg pc100 and one 32 meg pc66. I confiscated his extra 32meg pc66 and stuck it in my classic athlon machine, and it works there too. I actually had all my pc100 clocked at 133, but the pc66 froze it up after 5 minutes or so. I backed the whole thing down to 100 and it's stable as could be. Of course I haven't done any gaming since then, but no trouble yet.

I've clocked generic PC66 at 100MHz/CAS3 Absolutely no probs with 2*64MB sticks.

There really isn't a huge performance hit from running CAS3 vs. CAS2 and doing so lets you run the memory much faster (MHz).

Check this site out and see if your ram is listed as being tested. http://bxboards.com/sdram.shtml It has helped me out a few times.
