That's an interesting question. I've never tried it myself, but experience suggests that I'd hear some kind of "beep" that meant the BIOS was not happy with the situation. That would lead to my shutting down to think about what was wrong. For most boards, no damage is done, the BIOS is designed to stop short when something like this happens. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif Nighthawk 02-19-2001, 03:13 PM I don't think an ATX board will POST without a CPU, but have no experience with this. I think the switch shorts a pair of pins on the motherboard, which sends a signal to either the BIOS or CPU to execute something, then it triggers the power supply. or something like that. vidribbin 02-19-2001, 03:32 PM i have tried powering up but nothing happens not even the fan o hard drive so i guess you're right ill soon have a processor to fit in and ill tell you if the board boots up. thanks for the quick reply. Mistr2 02-19-2001, 06:49 PM What should happen is the fans, hard drives ect. should fire up, but there would be nothing on the screen. I've tried to start a comp with a dead P3 450 in the slot. vidribbin 02-20-2001, 06:32 AM yes but what should or would happen if the processor wasnt in the mobo?
