Trouble is I have no idea what RAW is or stands for. Can anyone help me on this?? oblivion 02-22-2000, 03:59 PM The only real help I can give you is..... dont get the HPburner....plextor is the bomb...... pickel 02-22-2000, 04:25 PM I got me a Philips PCRW404K at Comp USA on sale and I love it. Thru the suggestions of our newest "Senior member", burning slow and sure , I have made excellent reproductions of the CD's I own, in case of some unforseen event. For $129.95 you can't beat it!!!Made some backups of programs, fast and easy. Philips and Sony wrote the book on CD stantards. Check it out on www.pricewatch.com (http://www.pricewatch.com) or www.pcstuff.philips.com (http://www.pcstuff.philips.com) Godd luck with whatever you decide to get http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif the pickel codybear 02-22-2000, 04:33 PM I have the hp and couldnt be happier...staples has it for 199.99 and they are a very good quality burner..best price for the plextor 32x8x4x on price watch is 218 plus shipping..do your research and choose for yourself and ask questions.. you will not go wrong with the hp and the software included with the hp is better...I've tried both and the hp is what is in my system...email me if you have any questions..I have burned over 1000 disks and while I am no expert, I do pretty good here are some links to help you out.. http://www.cdmediaworld.com/ http://home.earthlink.net/~mzupanek/cdrlinks.htm http://www.fadden.com/cdrfaq/ regards, Tom [This message has been edited by codybear (edited 02-24-2000).] oblivion 02-22-2000, 05:17 PM Hey I am not into a flame war here....just look at some reviews of the plextor....they are held in the highest regard when it comes to burners...........paying 18$ more for a much better burner is trivial in my opinion. They are also a superior choice for audio ripping, and extraction. I just asked my friend that is into scsi and servers and stuff which one I should get.... he asked me "if I was smoking crack"...and that"I should get the plextor". Below is a review of a plextor burners from threshs firing squad. HERE (http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/plextor8220/default.asp/) The prices have dropped a good deal since the review. Teeb 02-22-2000, 05:35 PM I thank you all for your advice!! But nobody answered my question on the RAW data. I'm told the HP will handel the RAW but they are the only one to do it. That's all very well and good, but, What the hell is RAW? I can get either burner for the same price. The only thing holding me back is the Raw question! Thanks again!! oblivion 02-22-2000, 07:26 PM It very well may be a marketing gimmick... I have never heard it spoke of before.of course it could be a good thing, but the chances are that I would have heard of it. Look on the HP website for tech specs on thier burners...this would be a most logical thing to do....did you search the net for it also? Teeb 02-22-2000, 08:02 PM Yes, I did search the net. All I could find out is that it has something to do with games and the copying of games. Also that the HP9010 is the only burner that supports this. Other than that I can't get any more facts. I emailed a guy who was talking about it on one of the forums. So far no answer!! oblivion 02-22-2000, 08:35 PM It may be something to help copy games better......but there is alt of good programs that do that for you...... Dude,I would get the plextor.........this raw is likely some marketing hype...or a feature that can be had with software. Plextor = best CD burner you can afford. reddog4629 02-22-2000, 09:05 PM http://acm.cs.umr.edu/~stack/PCP/faq/ RAW explained. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif Mntsnow 02-22-2000, 09:35 PM FYI...I have BOTH Plextor and HP burners in question. 8x plextor(scsi) and 8x HP (ide) and can write in RAW on both. Also if you know how to configure Adaptecs software it will make backups of Playstation games easier and faster than Nero, Win on CD and CDRWin (I have all 4 of these softwares and All 4 installed!) Mntsnow ps. Raw is a data format. socalgal 02-22-2000, 09:47 PM http://fileformat.virtualave.net/ext_r.htm RAW - PCM Signed Raw Sound File or http://www.whatis.com/ff-p-t.htm#r RAW - Raw signed PCM data PCM - Audio file format [This message has been edited by socalgal (edited 02-22-2000).] AuraEdge 02-22-2000, 10:04 PM I bought the plextor 8x/4x/32x for my friend (is that the same one your considering?). Anyways Ive been able to burn about 10 unbrandname CD-r's at full 8x speed without getting a single underrun. Great in my opinion. Also plextor has one of those spicnspan reputations. Kinda like if its made by plextor its gotta be good. wyvrn 02-23-2000, 10:44 AM I bought the Hp because of the price-match deal with Staples/Office Depot. I believe that would make my HP an untouchable deal when compared with current Plextor Prices. However, I have heard nothing but goodness about the Plextors in the last week. Don't know if this is just a trend, but I do know the same praise about the HP was all I could find when the pricematch deal was still in effect a couple of weeks ago. I have a feeling you would like either unit, it is kinda like comparing a Mercedes with a Lexus or Infiniti. I mean they are all nice cars for about the same price point. Really could not go wrong with either. Rock on. oblivion 02-23-2000, 10:59 AM They are both good burners....but I have heardbad about HP burners...I have never heard a bad word against plextor...... It may be more like comparing a cadillac with a lexus.......... Teeb 02-24-2000, 10:36 AM I would like to thank everyone who helped out here!!! I found our what RAW is and when you learn something you win!! As far as what burner I will buy....I told the guy that i would buy the first one he could get, be it an HP or a Plextor. There the same price!! Thanks again! Teeb 02-24-2000, 04:15 PM I thought I would let everybody know that I bought the HP9110i this afternoon. It's too early to comment yet but, if you go by the installation it was breeeze. Hope the rest is too. Sorry Oblivion!!! Thanks again for all your help!! oblivion 02-24-2000, 04:26 PM No need to apoligize to me...........it doesnt really matter to me what you buy.... I was just trying to give you good advice. Enjoy Joel Kleppinger 02-25-2000, 08:00 AM And it was good advice, oblivion... I once searched for "plextor sucks" on Deja.com and got no search responses. Did the same thing with +plextor +bad and never got the two in the same sentance without a "not" in there. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif Personally I use an Imation 8x20 SCSI CDR (identical to a Plextor 8x20). I can even flash the BIOS to make it appear to the PC as a Plextor. SysOpt.com
