Sometimes...
Even generic Memory has to have a brand name of some sort. Last 2 times I got generic RAM, I got lucky..First time I got a stick of IBM 6ns, and the second time a stick of Siemens 7ns, both well reputed companys for RAM.

At its rated speed (PC100, PC133) They shouldnt really make a different. If you are to dabble in overclocking, its best to make sure you get a good stick, to be able to hold up to the extra speed you put it to.

Out of 900 megs or so, only 64Meg is name brand and the rest is generic. Not a problem.

Thanks, it's good to know that. And I don't plan on overclocking - I'm happy with whatever stability I can get out of my machine right now - so there should be no problem.

I love generic! It is all the same chips, just on a different PCB part. I got my generic PC66 to 124, and my generic PC100 to 140! The only difference is that some generic is not Parity.

Name brand is supposed to be better. I think the o/c success rate with brand name is better, but I have used generic in the past on non-o/c machines with nary a problem.
