Well...not really underclocking, but setting the core voltage to below specs.

I recently had a P3 750 running on 1.55v rather than 1.65v, just curious as to any adverse effects.

Not likely to hurt, cooler prolongs life.

I don't understand why you would want to do that? or maybe it's me. I don't think I'll have a CPU the whole of its lifespan so its of no concern to me. On my OC sys I found my voltage by increasing it till various errors went away, Kernal errors, IE errors, BSD.

Only adverse effects that come to mind might be the occasional error or failure.

I've heard of several CPU's that could run fine while under volted, and yours might be one of them.

Just keep in mind that its a bit of a **** shoot the same way that over volting is. The potential for issues exists

I'm with ya on that one rock19, I'll flash my own, as for a friends - no thanks.

If it ain't broke don't fix it.
Of course, others would say, if it will run the specified speed at lower voltage, imagine what it could do with a little more...

Just what I was thinking!

Sounds like you might have a gem of an overclocker there!

The problem arose from helping a friend put his computer together. I was helping him configure his bios on an Abit BE-6 II. The default settings for a 700(100) processor had the voltage at 1.55 (pre bios flash) and I hadn't noticed this at first. We installed windows and everything was working fine except for occasional problems with posting. Strangely enough, if you removed the mouse, it would post. I suppose the ps/2 jack was sucking just enough power to starve the cpu.

I am somewhat leary about flashing the bios. I've done it before, but with all the different revisions, and the fact it isn't my computer I just don't feel comfortable doing it. Besides, there really is no reason to. We have it set on user define now and everything is great.
