Hard Disk PIO moder settings

Quantum 3.2 from l996, Win98, FIC PT-2200 BIOS latest giving me option of setting PIO modes the earlier BIOS version did not. Any comment on performance increases by lowering/raising these two settings? Primary Master using the Quantum is a 4 and Secondary Master is utilizing my CD-ROM as a slave set at 3. Hi Donn ~

I have an older WD 2.1G and Award bios (circa 1996).

I have my WD (primary master)set on PIO 4 (which is fastest setting in my bios) and my CD (secondary master) on automatic. They seem to like it that way.
