I have a Pentium2 233mhz and i tried following the step by step directions about overclocking it, i found the switches on the motherboard; there were 4 small switches(1,2,3,4) it can either be on or off, i looked on the mother board manual on how to change the cpu speed; i tried switching it to 266mhz and 300mhz but the computer would start but the screen wouldn't turn on so it basicaly wouldn't boot but when i switched it to 333mhz it would boot up with the screen and everything but it would say pentium 2 mmx at 133mhz, that was even lower than before, and then it would boot everything up as it usually would; i even went to the bios and put bois defaults, so i am wondering if it even changed the speed at all or maybe i did something wrong.

Pentium II's are all multiplier locked. So the only way you can overclock them is by increasing the FSB. Other important aspect to overclock is that often you have to increase the voltage to make the cpu stable, maybe not for a small OC.
I do not have any experience with Pentium II and thier motherboards, but if you would post details about your M/B, I am sure there are people on this forum who can help you better.
OH! and almost forgot! COOLING!!! very important issue in overclocking. Make sure you have good cooling on the cpu and good air circulation in the case.
Good Luck

Ok hold on, if your PII was purchased before August 98, then it is NOT multiplier locked after that they are. Yes you may have to raise voltage and you will see better better results by overclocking the FSB.

do you know this for sure, cause' I purchased my Socket 7 Pentium 233 MMx in January 99, has following markings L8521244-0871/'92'95. And this CPU is multiplier locked.

I had a 233 Pentium II that ran with the multiplier @3.0 and the FSB@100 ... 300MHz. It wasn't multiplier locked. It ran very well @ 300MHz.

after reading this discussion, i tried to oc my unused pII 233 slot1 on my soyo SY=6VBA board.....
at first it went upto 332mhz 333 rather
then i tried again to get 375mhz ...
it went upto win98 bootup screen....
then i upped the voltage and voila !
375mhz super stable with PII case removed... a regular socket7 heatsink only strapped onto the pII, on top of which a separate old powersupply fan is blowing down...
Rock stable and already ran for 5 hours continuous now...

I do not believe you can control the core voltage on this MB but you should be able to o/c it to 266 for sure and maybe even 300 without it. Back-up your hd first! If the o/c does not take and it gets into windows with errors it will take your registy down for the count and this will make you very unhappy...trust me it happen to me. Another option is a new CPU. You might be able to put a PIII in it (with a flash update). I'm not sure on this but let me know if you can, a friend of mine has a 233 also, but it is a Gateway.
A P3 will not work but a celery 433 will and I would look into that. $42 on pricewatch.
