I'm planning to install a new cpu + m-b on a Compaq 5600s. Anybody have experience with this? My concern is that there may be glitches I'm not aware of...Compaq sez this is a full ATX case, and it looks like one, but...and with all the special OEM stuff Compaq does, I'm worried that some of the peripherals that came with it are special somehow, like IDE controllers, Win98 configuration. The video card, ethernet, modem, CD-R, memory are not OEM (my own, Radeon, etc.). I've actually disabled/deleted most of the Compaq Windows stuff, has 98SE update.

1. Windows may not run. When you change the mother board out. Windows sometimes gets messed. If you have a copy of win then your fine!
2. Look at the Power box. Make sure it's at least 250Watt. more would be better!
3. The plate the m-b ataches to may not have the holes for your new m-b to attach. But you could probably drill some holes if need be.
4. On the back of the PC were the printer, com, and USB ports are. Make sure the new motherboard will fit in the gap. My first PC (Packerd Bell pentium 60) had that problem.

Good Luck! :-)
