Hello - My uncle asked me how he can put some kick into his Hewlett Packard Pavilion 8140. So I looked it up. http://www.hp.com/cposupport/personal_computing/support_doc/bph03662.html
WOW. I just got into computing a year ago. Just built my own pc last month, (still can't get that **** 700 to hit 933).
Anyway, is his system to old for the newer CPUs? Should his PC boost be a new PC?
Any thoughts? Thanks, ~

You might tell him to clean it up a bit. Get all the dust and cob webs out of it, then tell him its time for a new computer. I did that with my Dad, It was like pulling teeth, then he finnally got a new one and he's all happy he did it.
It eally depends on his needs & usage. Believe it or not, not everyone needs the high speed stuff.
For most non-game apps, there's really no need for it.
I've got an 8140, my teenage kids use it daily. No complaints. Personally, I think it would benefit from adding ram, but that's about it.
Except for newer graphic-intensive things, it performs as well as mine, which is an AMD K6/2-550 with 256mb ram and a G400 Max.
On paper, or benchmarks, these two machines don't compare. But in reality, the old P200 Pavilion isn't that bad at all.
As far as upgrading, though, I wouldn't put much into it. More ram is the only real option, and it WILL make a difference.
