i just ordered one of these please let me know how they are and what to expect .
what is the best it will overclock how high have you run the voltage, and so on
i have a fic503A and it supports it so ill try it at 2.0v and 6x100 to start with.
also let me know what kind of temp it is running at.

I have the K6-2+ 500 on the FIC VA-503+ MB, but alas I could only make it go 550. I played with it for a week before I had to pack up for my move, but I will again be playing with it soon and hoping for 600. I know AMD's whit papers say not to take it above 2.1v, but I have to ask, did they do that to make it harder for us to over clock or is there a sounds reason? Intel chips on the .18 micron process can vary from 1.5v to 2.0v, a far larger range than AMD has published.

My k3450+ is at 551 and stable , you only need 2volts. Had it at 2.1 and had a computer meltdown, not sure if it was the extra volt or not. Chip might hit 600 but be carefull about volts because i think this chip blows up easy at high volts. It might even hit 550 at lower volts. I cant find out how to set my DFI to 600. I know other boards can do it,! But it is running perfect now at 550 and is very fast, so dont care that much. This is the best 7 chip made other then the 500+ that no-one has, don't think amd made many = they must be in high end notebooks, But a guess is this might be the same chip? Thats why it hits 550 so easy= that make's it a real deal. Try 550 at 2volts= may be the best stable setting for chip= unless i can find the 600 setting=it might not work?

Just got my K6-3+ 450 today... ran it at 450 for about 2 minutes just to to make sure it was OK... Never looked back! Running now at 112x5=560mhz, at 2.0 volts, on an Epox MVP3-G2. Tried 600mhz(100x6) but wouldn't POST. The POST screen identifies it as a K6-3,with correct speed, but not a + sign, but there is no BIOS update available yet.
Idle temp = 28c./82f.
I haven't run loaded tests yet to find out those temps.
So far, I like this little bugger....

Check to see if motherboard supports this chip! My DFI does and reads chip correctly, I am not running that motherboard and I am glad, This is the most modern 7 board out. And I got two for the price of one. Old one was using 33 controllers, This one uses 66. You must have a dud. This is one of three DFI 's that i got. Tccomputers replaced it three times. Probly nothing wrong with replacements but i lucked out getting the latest model.DFI K6XV3+/66. Successfully running at 551+ from a K3450+! They cost about 72$. This chip is running like a bear! And would hit 600 if motherboard had the setting, people say it does but i tryed all the setting 550 is all i get! This is very fast I bet the duron is slower at 550. The only chip faster is that althon. You must have 2volt setting to run this chip right- even 2.1 made chip= werid. Temp is around 40C with silver grease=may lap it , but you won't see much a drop in temp because artic silver is so good. GW heatsink 26 fan, three 80's hung by fishing line, two little heatsink fans also=plenty of air moving around in a tiger mid tower. Going to add 128mb-more memory to 160mb it has now= this motherboard support's 768mb of pc100=thats enoth to never see hard drive do anything!=288mb= memory pig!

I don't know much about FIC, but this site (http://www.hardseeker.myweb.nl/reviews/amdk623plus-list/k623comp.htm) says something about needing the jn4116 bios.

thanks skeegn.
i got it to post at 300 but it reported it as a -mmx@66mhz what the hell is that must be the bios i have jn412

First time tested it at stock voltage and speed (2.0v and 450), booted the computer loaded the windows PERFECT! Shutdown the c and set the multiplier to 2X and voltage to 2.1v booted BIOS reported it as K6-III (no plus) at 600, loaded the windows PERFECT! ran CPUBurn and CPUBURN MMX overnight, no crahes, temperature max out at 41C, idle temp 27-28C. Kept the case and window open while burnin.

Used CPU Cool utility to change the FSB from windows (Win2KPro), 103x6 = 618 stable at 2.1v, crashes at 112x6 (didn't up the voltage).

I have benchmarked the CPU using Sandra and Wintune 2000. Do not have the figures right now (I am in school). Though the memory benchmark in Wintune hits 1250MB/s.

If anyone is interested in full benchmarks, I can post them in the evening.

Let's see it running at 100*6, if you don't mind. This is probably the best setting most users will get, since most SS7 boards don't support over 100 Mhz FSB.

I want to see how it compares against my K6-2+ @ 600. So if you could run some Sandra Millenium and Quake III specs, I'd really appreciate it. Also, what's your system layout?

wildbuffalo

OK, here are the benchmark results:

System specs: MVP3G2 (BIOS 04/12/2000), K6-III+ 450 oced to 600 (100x6) 2.1volts, PC133 Generic 128 mb, Maxtor 66/7200 HD, and PCI Savage-4, Win 2K (sp1). (I am not a gamer, use computer for DATA analysis, word processing and web surfing only). Sorry do not have Quake III, only Sandra and Wintune.

Sandra 2000: Identifies the CPU as AMD K6-III+ 601 (mobile)

CPU Drystone 1480 MIPS
FPU Whetstone 780 MFLOPS
Integer MMX 1470 it/s
Floating-Point 3DNOW 2160 it/s
ALU/Memory Bandwidth 164 MB/s
FPU/Memory Bandwidth 180 MB/s

WINTUNE

(1) 602 MHz
1614 MIPS (Integer operations)
725 MFLOPS (Floating point operations)
146 (Integer application simulation)
77 (Floating point application simulation)
139 (MMX application simulation)
1231 RAM MB/s
208 cached disk MB/s
5.7 uncached disk MB/s

The m/b does support 112 and 124 FSB. Have tried them before with my K6-III 350 CPU. With CPU cool it also supports 103,115, and 120 fsb. Though the BIOS has a setting for 133, it only works when you underclock the cpu.

Finally I am quite happy and satisfied with this upgrade. For $56 its worth it. And since, I do not play games the setup is more than adequate for my requirements.

Could someone post how these benchmarks compare to a duron 600?

Dputiger
10-24-2000, 04:29 PM
They won't.

The Duron 600 runs on a 200 Mhz bus and has FAR superior FPU performance to the K6-3, plus carries onboard cache.

The K6-3+ would be crushed by the Duron.

I know it would, but however temple of technology posted an article comparing a duron 600 to a k62-400, thereby justifying the upgrade. I was interested to see what the relative performance difference would be to recommend a k6+ to a friend as a cost efective option rather than investing in a whole new system. I think if the difference is 25% or less it would be worth it.

WooHoo!! Just got the K6-3+ 450 running at 600 (100x6). At 2.1 volts.
My system setup is very similar to wildbuffalo's. Epox MVP3-G2 w/128 meg ram.
I only have Sandra 2000, but here are some results:

CPU Drystone = 1531 MIPS
FPU Whetstone = 748 MFLOPS
Integer MMX = 1479 it/s
Floating-Point 3DNOW! = 2178 it/s
ALU/Memory Bandwidth = 163 MB/s
FPU/Memory Bandwidth 165 MB/s

From several reviews I've read, the Epox MVP3-G2 is not the best performing SS7 mobo out there. Looks like the FIC VA-2013 (ATX)or FIC VA-503+ (AT) usually do quite well, or if overclocking the FSB is not a issue, the Tyan Trinity 1598 (ATX) or TYAN Trinity 1590 (AT) perform very well. (granted, I doubt you are shopping for a new SS7 mobo. just FYI)
