Well I got my board waxed up and my gear packed. Off to the Rocky Mountains for a week on a back country snowboard trip! Last year I was two steps away from going down a 125 foot cliff with a freak class 2/3 avalanche. Ha, it went over our boot pack from the day before. Not good, not smart. But we had the best run ever after that.

So if you never hear from me again, it's not that I don't love you! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

jk, we've learned a lot scince then.

Ciao Sysopt.

Seti, You comin' to Utah? We are the home to the "Greatest Snow on Earth" and even won in court to be able to say that!

Out...Hey my buddys and I usually give boarders a ride or a tug up some of the BIG hills (If in the "friendly mood" http://www.sysopt.com/forum/biggrin.gif) O-BTW I have only run over about 10 or 15 boarders http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif LOL

Bring your "Homeing Beacon" with you and give the monitor to Socalgal so if the avalanche hits we know where are and can send MtSnow to rescue you http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

That is a right smart idea Pickel (about the beacon) 2 years ago I lost a friend in a avalanche (I was working that weekend so I didnt go sledding) but got the call that night saying he was missing. went out with the S@R group and didnt find him for 2 days. The moral of this story is..If you want to play in the back country 1. check the LOCAL Avalanche reports. 2. Always have a group (No going out by your self! This was his mistake and it cost him his life). 3. Wear a beacon (make sure you have good batts in it to!) 4. Make sure to let someone know when you should be back and where you plan on being.

If you live by those 4 simple rules you will increase your likelyhood of reaching a "ripe old age" greatly!

Enjoy Seti! Like I said if you come to Utah give me a shout!

Luck Dog, we are heading out to Colorado next Friday to Copper Mt. After 22 yrs of exploring diff slopes in Co, we finally tried Copper.. MAN what a mistake to wait so long.. this mt has about 4000 acres, similar to Vail, Steamboat,, the BIG boys.. anyway for those who care , the lift tickets on a 3day pass are about $28.00 a day(cheap)! We stay in Frisco Co at a Mom & Pop motel for cheap too.. a Wal-Mart nearby for eats and away we go.. have fun, DrVette

Well I got back last night. Ha, I'm typeing with one hand right now. I might have broken my wrist yesterday http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif. I booked it off this little kicker, got turned 90 in the air and caught my back edge on the landing. This was on the park so it wasn't powder. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif Anyway, I rode another 3 hours as it stiffened up and started hurting. I think I'll go to the doctor tomorrow.

Otherwise it was an amazing trip! (other than my best friends snoring http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif)

No real avalanches this time, though I did have to outrun some sluff a few times, but that's fun! We spent most of our time in glades (trees) or on slopes >45 deg. where avalanche danger is much less. And we did have tranceivers, probes and shovels.

Mntsnow if I ever see a trip to Utah on my horizion, you bet you'll hear from me! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

I spent a lot of my hikeing time thinking how badly I wanted a machine. Too bad it was in a national park that doesn't alow them!

Glad to hear you had a good time (up until you hurt your wrist!) You better call me if you get to utah! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/biggrin.gif I will take you to some breathtaking places where the everything is STEEP and DEEP!

Also I am glad to see that you live by good rules when in the backcountry (transceiver, probe/shovel and other people)

Mntsnow

btw. WoooHoo...I'm taking SUNDAY afternoon/night and Monday DAY/NIGHT off from work and going sledding http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif!!!!! We've gotten over 5 feet of NEW powder where I go sledding. (the best conditions of the year so far!)

smokin1, we stayed away from the rockies because they havn't had very great snow. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif so; we headed off to a little mountain called Whitewater (http://www.skiwhitewater.com). It's near the town of Nelson B.C. where the high ratio of gay men make the women friendly. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif Ha, or so I'm told, I was much to tired...and we had a keg. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif Then we made a drive to kootney pass. There we parked the van (and the keg)....and made the hour hike up to a great little forest service cabin that we had all to ourselfs. We made a summit run in the afternoon, and hiked back to the cabin through sunset. The next day we went on an epic tour that took us over 10-15km and 4 peaks (three runs). The powder was AMAZING! Then we went and spent the night in a motel right beside the world's largest truck (http://www.infomagic.com/~martince/wltruck.htm) haha! The next day we hit Fernie (http://www.skifernie.com/). This place is amazing, so much terrain and still realitively undiscovered. The next day we were pretty tired, but still got up to the hill. We hit the pipe (half-pipe, we don't do drugs, we have a keg), then we hit the terrain park, it really only had two table tops, but they were bigger than my house. But then I messed my wrist up. So then we went above the tree line and found some powder and that's about it for this trip. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif Only 5 days of rideing, stupid wrist, but I guess I saved money. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

I have some pictures, nothing scanned yet. Well, except for the one I put in the following thread:
http://www.sysopt.com/forum/Forum1/HTML/004316.html

But I'll put the pics up on my site...too bad there arn't really any good ones. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif

I spent about 7 days on big white around christmas-new years last year. That was a great experience, powder on runs almost everyday! Rachels is one of my favorite restaurants anywhere. I loved dropping off the cornice on the backside! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Here's a pic from big white last year http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Yow !! Seti, we don't powder ski too well as the East coast don't ever get real powder so the Rockies are great to us.. Hope the wrist gets better, once in Steamboat Springs I wrecked bad, dislocated my right arm at the shoulder, went back to the room and got a demerol the dentist had prescribed and sorta skiied the rest of the day. Blasting off in bout an hour for a week at Copper, get well, later folks, hopefully. DrVette
