Hi All ! I'm running my cumine 550 at 682. (124 x 5.5) Its stable as a rock (last 6 Months) Is there any way to take it higher?
I got it to boot at 731 but it would just sit and reboot. Any ideas?

somebody please help me here
I'd kick it to 1.8V and watch the temps. I've run .18u Coppermines at 2 volts for test without releasing any of the smoke that makes them run! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif A 10% boost (0.16V) is considered conservative.

I think the problem is not your chip, but your RAM. If you have it set to CAS2, try and nock it back ot CAS3 at 5.5 X 133 MHz. If you already have it set to CAS 3, then you might want to get some true PC133 RAM.

Ditto voltage!
Ditto memory!
1.6V may simply not be enough - my sweet little 550E purrs along at 825 (150MHz FSB) with a 7.5% increase in core voltage - not a lot, but it definately needs it.
Keep a close check on the CPU temperature when increasing the core voltage. Use a util like SiSoft Sandra or Motherboard Monitor to do this. Personally, I get a bit nervous of temps over 45ºC, but that's just me - I'm sure plenty others go higher without a second thought.
That chip should be capable of much more than ~680............ IF it's a 256k flavour!! There are some 512k coppermine E chips that have the OC-crippling off-die half speed cache. If yours is a 256k chip, then (unless you are not limited by memory or excessively high AGP clock speeds) ~800MHz is a realistic goal.

Well, I learned something new last night and it wasnt a pretty sight..Pulled out my 3 PC-100's and "borrowed" a stick of PC-133 from a buddy and put it into my machine. Booted into BIOS and set FSB to 133 from 124. Upped volts to 1.7 reasoning that if it ran stable that I could back it down. Upped L2 latenecy from 2 to 3 hoping that it would also help to eliminate unstability.Booted system, it came up at 732, I thought that it was going to work. Win2k started to load then CRASH...System restarted and that was the end of my partition! Tried to repair using my trusty ERD. It said the partition was full, damaged or corrupted. I was ready to cry! Took out PC-133, put in PC-100's still no joy. Yanked that HD and installed backup Win2k that I keep around for emergencies figuring that I could at least move my data over and re-install. NO LUCK! The F*****G thing was dead. Had to do a clean install of Win2k. What did I learn from this fiasco? Never use your primary HD for testing and if so, have good backups as I lost lots and lots of important data. Now Im back to square 1. Im going to get the info from my CPU and post it to find out what flavor CPU I've got. Hopefully with your help I can get this thing back on track. I know this CPU will do better than it is. Thats all for now besides the tears...

Ooooo no fun there m8 http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif
133MHz is an 'official' FSB - the P3 'EB' chips run at this speed.
If your HDD went t!tsup, it suggests that the PCI bus speed was too high, which suggests that the FSB/PCI divider was set incorrectly. For 133MHz operation, the divider should be set at /4 to give 133/4=33MHz. I have the BE6-II manual downloaded (SoftMenuIII), so I'm not sure how similar it is to yours. On the SoftMenu setup in BIOS, there's an option to set this divider - PCI clock/CPU FSB clock. Set this to 1/3 for 100MHz FSB operation and 1/4 for 133MHz FSB operation. Also make sure that the AGP divider is set to 2/3 not 1/1. This will give you 89MHz AGP clock, which is overclocked by a fair bit, but several graphics cards can handle it.
Hope this helps!

I have o/c my 550 cumine to 800 but i had a lot of problems with direct 3d aplications (opengl as well) probably because of the AGP speed....i think...finally i get him rock stable at 700 mhz with a simple case fan posted under my video card....now temp's are
28degree celsius (case), 30 processor,24 video card,....multiplier 5.5 /126hmz FSB
brief info about my system :
mobo MSI 6163 Pro....proc 550 coppermine 256 cache, video card leadtek winfast 3ds320 riva tnt2 ultra,memory MICRON 128MB,hdd 4.2 Gb ... http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif,sound soundblaster live!,network card....5x dvdrom Creative........mouse keyb etc.... http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif)))))))
Any input may be very useful cause i understood that this little rocket (550E)can be easily o/c at higher speeds so anyone is welcome with some input....about my problem

OK now. Time for an update...I flashed the BIOS to the newest version (TH) It worked. I ran the lil beast al day on a Win98 SE HD with no problem @733. It would run fairly stable @ 770. At 825 it would run but locked up within 15 mins. Im running it at 133 /4 for 133 FSB. The newest problem is...I can only run 1 stick of 128 Meg RAM. If I put in a 2nd of the same stuff (Crucial)It wont boot. For some reason since nearly day 1 whenever I go into the BIOS to the Advanced chipset page (?) where the RAS/CAS can be altered, the machine locks up. Does this have anything to do with it? I have to reboot. All other pages work fine. Anybody have this exp. with a BE-6 (1st Version)either locking up or not able to run more than 128 of RAM. If I drop down to 683 (124 /4 x 5.5) I can run all 384 MEG's. I'm also not running muy UDMA 66 controller either.Im confused.....Thanx
Just wondering, did you try switching the ram around in different slots yet? Are you sure your ram can run at that speed? If not then possibly you should invest in some PC133.

Yes, I did try moving the RAM around. I can run any 1 of 3 sticks in any location at 133 FSB. Just not 2 or more..I know that my ras/cas is at 3-3....
