I know my math, but don't understand this whole overclock stuff. I went into softmenu and I'm trying to set my 600mhz Duron to 700, 750, and then 800. I wanted to see if it could reach those speeds. I tried a couple random changes and I was getting 690mhz, 708mhz...etc.
Can anyone just tell me what to set for those three settings so I can try to overclock my processor? Also, what does it mean when I set it and the computer doesn't boot? Does that mean the processor just can't make that speed, math is wrong, or something else?
Thanks
Jim

When you overclock you must bear in mind that:

The speed (MHz) = FSB speed x Multiplier

Your standard FSB will be 100 so you can work out that to get 600 you need a multiplier of 6.

When overclocking you can change either the FSB or multiplier. You can only change the multiplier on Duron's though if you have first re-joined the L1 bridges on the actual processor (see Duron 750 article on sysopt).

Get your calculator out and by using the formula above you can work out what speed you should get with different settings.

You will get more success with changing the multiplier rather than the FSB but you have to unlock the chip first (L1 bridges.....).

If it doesn't boot, the processor cannot handle it and you will have to decrease the settings.

Make sure you have good cooling!!!!

Hope this helps

ya most surtanly will have to unlock the CPU
get a 0.2pen and connect the L1 bridges

this must be done in order to change the multiplier

if ya want to try with FSB clocking there aint much i can tell you
but i can tell ya this
ya wont be able to crank it up much more than a few mhz perhaps if yer lucky ya will be able to get 110mhz FSB
ya might also need to bumb the voltage a bit
i would not recomend going higher than .3v
