Well folks , got back to work this week and one of my main buds just bought him a new computer. Anyway, He bought a copy of Linux.
I think something like 6.0 (??). Anyhow, since it's free distribution he offered me the lend of the program to install on my computer. Although I have plenty of room on my present Hdd, I'd like to keep it a Windows only and get another since I have one IDE connection left on the primary side. I figure another 6-6.4 would be plenty big enough and wouldn't cost all that much. Maybe even someone has something like that laying around gathering dust. I think my Mbd supports UDMA 33, so this shouldn't be to hard to find. Any suggestions gladly accepted
I have a Biostar M5ALA rev 1.1 if that helps
Thanks...

With some of the newer Linux packages, there are all kinds of extras that come with them.
I think 1G is recommended, but if you are wanting to install many of the extras, then over 4G is needed.

I'd say the a 6G is plenty to start off with.

I would recommend WinLinux for you Pickel. I could burn you a copy and send it to you if you wish, it is over a hundred megs so I don't think you want to download it. It installs in Windows so there is no need for a new drive or seperate Partitions. It is a set of training wheels for Linux. It looks and acts like Linux also. It is a little slower but then again you don't need to go through all the hassles.

"Winlinux" - the "friendly enemy"

2.5 to 3GB is plenty for a complete install of just about any current Linux package and will leave you a little space to work in.

Hey Jad & Susan: Well, since Linux is the latest thing , I thought I might as well get my feet wet. And Jad that seems like an offer I can't refuse!! And 100 megs...I could probably delete half a gig of junk I've collected but rarely ever use.Since I've kinda regained my health and presence of mind (What's left of it)I've been really getting into my CD-RW. My computer's hotter than a firecracker. When I'm not on line it's burn baby burn. I'm sure the facination of all the lights flashing ,etc. will wear off
presently. Always looking for a new challenge
I'll zip you an email after awhile. OK?
Thanks for the offer......Later http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

I recommend Mandrake 7.0, personally, it's an easy distro plus it's got more HW support than any other I know of. Just my $0.02

If you can't DL 670 MB, someone could burn and mail you a copy. I'd do it myself if I knew where the heck to get to a post office to mail a package on this campus...
