I like PC World, they arrange things nicely and give good info. I was looking through past issues and the covers are 400mhz, the new speedsters, pretty funny how fast technology is moving these days.

MaximumPC (Minimum BS)...my one and only mag.

It covers the most recent stuff that goes around on the net. Less advertising, less useless software app reviews, more hardware and game reviews...but of course you'll have to pay top $$$ for the mag. Try
$7.99US/$8.99Cdn on for size.

The mag is more targeted @ hardcore gamers than other mags such as PCWorld which are targeted @ general comp and buzziness users.

The language may be a bit inappropriate, but heck, that's what I like in my mags...it adds pizazz.

Since some of you know I once applied for a Darwin Award, my choice will be understood. "PC Novice Learning Series" by Sandhills Publishing. "Win 98 Install, run, troubleshoot. Vol.4 issue #9 $6.00.. and "Win98 Tips, tricks and troubleshooting(in plain english)" VOL.4 ISSUE12 $6.00 .. www.smartcomputing.com (http://www.smartcomputing.com) Ph.402-479-2132 Before I bought my first at-home computer, I read for 6-7 months, spent over $150 on books. Didn't find these ones till after purchase. Also got Peter Nortons Win98 book,, Looked at it a couple of times,, Greek to me.. GLuck DrVette

ED_S - hey you made me happy there for a sec. You must've forgotten I'm a Canadian. $12?! Its times like this I wish I was an American... Yet still, $26 for an annual subscription is a pretty darn good deal considering that I paid the full bookshelf price of $9 per issue for the past two years....for a GRAND TOTAL of $216US.........

*CRYING* - anybody got a kleenex? Hmmm...if I'd returned all those mags back do you think they'd give me a refund? hehehehe....

Thanks for the links Eddy, you're the man.
I'll be saving some big bucks now. Tell ya what ED, for being such a great guy that you are helping me save some big $$$, I'll give you my 32megs of PC100 RAM *free* 2 years from today. Remind me in 2 years, ok? By then, probably both of us would've forgotten, but we'll see what happens then...

Thanks again.

Oops! I knew you're Canadian, but I didn't see that "US only" on their page!
Double the sub. price just to cross the border, that stinks!
Another thing I didn't see explained on their page after looking closer - The CD that comes with it at the store is NOT mailed with subcription issues!

Now, I've got to go enter a reminder in my calender program about that ram... http://www.sysopt.com/forum/biggrin.gif http://www.sysopt.com/forum/biggrin.gif

My subscription to PC Magazine dates back to the late eighties. In fact recently I find one tucked away that featured on the cover the newly released 286 CPU.

I also subscribe to PC Computing, Maximum PC and Yahoo Internet Life, Linux Magazine.

I pick up a gaming magazine once a month; I alternate between these titles: PC Accelerator, PC Gamer, Incite and Computer Gaming World.

I’ve also recently subscribed to the magazine Maximum Linux (http://www.maximumlinux.com) being published by Imagine Media. Maximum Linux Free Trial Offer (http://support.imaginemedia.com/subs/mxlx/844A.html)

Had a subscription to PC Magazine since the mid 80's, cancelled it because I was getting fed up with all the ads. Switched to PC Computing.

Also had a subscription to Byte until they stopped publishing http://www.sysopt.com/forum/icons/icon9.gif . Now read the weekly online at http://www.byte.com/ on occasion.

~edit - I'll figure out how to use these tags one of these days!

I recieved two free issues of PC Magazine and my opinion of it is that it seems geared more towards to "non-techie". They have things like the "10 Best PCs" or some bull like that. Their opinions and mine just don't go well together. Their reviews are not worth paying for because I can get ten times more online for free.

What about PC Computing? Is that more of the same? Any other mags?

I find the writing in MaximumPC a good read. I used to like Winmag for all the helpful tips but.........out of print. The other big mags are getting a little ad. heavy. I know, I know, they gotta pay the bills.
