My new Celeron 2 566 just arrived. It's guarenteed to overclock to 850, but I don't think my motherboard is going to let me.
My BM6's BIOS reconizes it as a Celeron 566 with the voltage @ 1.5. (BIOS has been flashed with latest QT BIOS rev.) Windows boots fine, etc etc. But check this out:
http://www.virtualtrends.com/gradius/cpu.jpg
This is what WCPUID is telling me. I'm currently running it at 8.5x66.6. When I put the FSB @ 100 (2/3 AGP, 1.5v, 8.5x) it won't post. The video (v770) inits but the screen goes black and I have to unplug the computer to restart.
Any ideas? Would a Powerleap convertor help here?
EDIT - Ok, I got the CPU to post and get into Windows with (8.5*100 @ 1.65v) but it crashes immediately into Win98. I think the guy sold me a bad CPU.

Erm......i had the same problem with My BM6 and celeron 500
but i found out it is locked at the 7.5 multiplier so you have to change the fsb instead!
i dont know if that your case with the celery2 but i hoping to get a 600 for my bm6 soon!
but the symptoms of not turning back on is exactley what i had when i tried changing the multiplier so just try the FSB!
hope this helps

That's what's wierd about this Celeron 2. The FSB is set at 66Mhz and the multiplier is locked at 8.5, and yet look how it's been read.

If you go to 100mhz FSB you will more than likely have to increase the core voltage. Start increasing it by +.5 each time till it will post at that FSB but don't go over 1.85 core voltage.. so I've heard.

Well, I'm at 850 (8.5*100, 2/3 AGP, 1.7v) everything appears nominal.
I haven't tried any benchmarks yet. What makes me mad is that this chip was guarenteed 850 at default voltage! Is that fraud if someone sells it as that, but in fact the chip cannont do what they advertised?
EDIT - Chip is not stable at this voltage either! It locked up Quake 3 in the first 10 seconds of the timedemo even with temps hovering around 88F. Sheesh, this is so annoying, I HATE when people try to screw me over like this.

Hi!
I wanted to buy that same board too and maybe a celeron 533. I'm not awaiting a 850MHz or so, but 700 to 800 would be nice.
Are you able to choose the FSB speed in 1MHz steps just like you can do on the BF6 for example? (There was no information concerning this at Abits homepage!)
Thanks!

Here are all the FSB options for the Abit BM6:
66Mhz (1/2)
75Mhz (1/3)
83Mhz (1/2)
100Mhz (1/3)
105Mhz (1/3)
110Mhz (1/3)
112Mhz (1/3)
115Mhz (1/3)
120Mhz (1/3)
124Mhz (1/3)
124Mhz (1/4)
133Mhz (1/3)
133Mhz (1/4)
There you go. With the latest BIOS (QT) the board supports multipliers up to 9x. I like this motherboard alot, but I wouldn't recommend it for a Celeron 2 or P3 FC-PGA.

i have the cel 566 with a bf6,with the stock bios it would do no better than 813, flashed the bios and it went right up at 850, but is not stable...at 1.6 and 825 it is rock solid...if there is a newer bios available i would look into getting for the bm6.

No mention of cooling. If you are using a stock (retail or otherwise) fan/HS then that is your problem. Try an Alpha or Golden orb (what I'm using) If you are not stable at 1.6 go to 1.65 it's no problem just do not go over 1.8. You also need to use thermal paste (no pad) for proper heat dissipation.
Good luck!

i got an rjdj k601 for now
and thermal paste and fan blowing into case..
not sure what the temp is to be honest...i got the thermal probe in there and got three readings from MBM, right now 33, 29 and 72 celcius....i think 33 is the right one, it was at 36 when i got done with a 6 hours counterstrike session, and has been dropping...

well, the CPU the guy sold me was in fact a dud. I don't know why he did this but he is going to send me another pre-tested CPU that WILL do 850 at 1.5v. Although that means I have to send back this chip which is in the only computer I have. Geez, i'll be without a computer for a while until the other chip comes in. Oh well, maybe this time they'll give me what I paid for

Thanks, Oxo to post all the fsb frequencies!
(Hope you're still there. Hey, can't you wait to send your cpu over until you got the other? That would be correct, cause the guy in the shop made the mistake, not you!)
Hmm, why wouldn't you recommend the bm6 for celeron? (and p3???). So, not at all? At least, I don't know of other cpus that would fit into that board.
See you

The BM6 has really been designed for the Celeron PPGA. But because of a BIOS revision, it now supports Celeron 2 FC-PGA (and maybe P3 FC-PGA) The only reason I wouldn't recommend it is because it doesn't have UDMA66 built in and it doesn't have a Slot 1 interface for CPUs.
I bought this board with a Celeron 366@550 a while back because of the price and features. Now it seems a little outdated especially when compared to the Abit BE6 or BE6-II. I wanted to upgrade my CPU without having to get a new motherboard, so the Celeron 2 seems like an inexpensive upgrade.
If you're short on cash go for the BM6 but I'd spend a little more and get the better BE6 if I could.
Go to Abit's website (http://www.abit-usa.com) and compare the features. Remember, I'm just talking about Abit motherboards because to me, they are the best built mobos around. You might be able to find another motherboard from another company for less. You can't be dissapointed when you get an Abit.

great article to read on the Celeron 566 from Riva Station

If you want that thing to display the right multiplier and FSB, you need to download the "special" cpuid, you can get it at http://www.tweakfiles.com/processor/wcpuid.html It's the bottom one, it says specifically for Coppermine Celerons.

What is the celeron 2 locked at ?
i thought it was 8.5?
but the one i tried was, im sure 9!
neo_otyugh

it depends on the speed
8 is 533
8.5 is 566
9 is 600 and so on
