Windows 98

I have a problem running windows 98 setup
on my existing windows 98 OS on my 1.6G HDD
I come across Illegal function error messages. I tried from within Windows as well as DOS but no way.
Could anyone help me out without reformate my HDD or remove the windows98 forever from my HDD.

You could boot to a command prompt, rename the windows directory to win98 or whatever. Then try to reinstall 98 into the new windows directory. But you might be right back where you started too depending on what the problems are. Why are you against reformatting your hard drive?
