I have finally received every component for my computer i am builing. I just got in my h/s fan (FOG 32-1) wit the artic silver.

I have read several places of how to best install this FOP 32-1 with using the artic silver. I have heard you should scratch the surface of your h/s so you can get good contact, what to spread it on with and how much...etc.....

What is the best and easiet way to do this . By the way im not overclocking my tbird 800 (Abit ka7-100 mobo)

thanks

Ideally, the two surfaces should be as smooth as possible - you're not applying glue, so don't scratch the surfaces!

Have a read about why thermal paste is beneficial and you'll appreciate why smooth is good:

The idea is to fill the small gaps with thermally conductive material, thereby increasing the effective contact area (decreasing the thermal resistance).

You only need a small amount - you could experiment with applying some, putting the heatsink on then removing it to see if the entire contact area is covered (just the CPU core is the contact area http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif )
