Anyone heard anything about these? they come from Japan and nerdsbyte sells em, ive only spoke to 1 person thats used it and it almost sounds like a "1 time mount only" h/s, meaning you cant remove and remount it as the copper gets dented from the cpu slug, which sure doesnt sound good...
Heard anything otherwise??? <IMG SRC="http://b.postmypic.com/b.nsf/Z/MOD4PQWJ/$file/MOD4.jpg" border=0>

Regardless of how they work, they look "cool" http://www.plycon.com/hedge.htm
(reviews and warning included in above link) I've never seen so many warnings and disclaimers for a PC component before. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Here's a spacer for it. http://www.plycon.com/sckaspcr.htm

Yeah it DOES look cool, since its going in my clearcase that was a bonus, I was wondering how it would look after several heating and cooling cycles, might look like the bottom of one of my copperclad saute pans...

Hi guys,

I have one of those new hedgehogs and in my case its performance is impressive to say the least.

In the afternoon my room is at a humid 32c but the hedgehog kept my cpu only 4c above ambient. That's not an easy task for any heatsink.

I previously had a "souped up FDP32"(47cfm 80mm fan), but the hedgehog tops it by 3c. In my book that's pretty good.

Even if I did pay a price($50 incl. Delta fan) I'm satisfied.

yea but just give it some time and the oxidation will leave it looking like the Statue of Liberty

The moldy green patina may be appreciated yes...on my roof...not in my case...j/k I still think its a killer item, the new updated version will be much better, im looking at the swiftech hollowpinfin copper w/peltier for 119$ (oh man) 370-4, cheaper without tec...but more then I wanna spend, I have a Dresden 750 that I hope to have good results with OCing...I may order the swiftech but its a month wait...
o O In the meantime...?

copper being softer than glass??? I would like to see this. besides why would you want to be taking the thing off and putting it back on alot.

I have seen some reviews on it and so far not to shabby. Lap the sucka, slap some thermal goo down, and your ready to go.

The only thing about the all copper construction is that copper acepts heat very readly, however it doesnt give it off as readly. Aluminum on the other hand does just the opposite. that is why you see alot of sinks with a copper core and have alumonum molded around it.

The guy I spoke with using one is in Australia and he said the slug "dented" it, when I asked the guy at Nerdsbyte he sent me this reply:

The Hedgehog performs a little better then Alphas, but is soft and more apt to be damaged. I see that you already ordered one, so just be sure to be careful when mounting/dismounting it. The core on the CPU ***WILL*** cut into the copper a bit.

I canceled my order, at times I try different combos hence I remove and replace parts alot, heatsinks included, after lapping a slab of copper only to dent it unrecoverably at 40$ a pop isnt a realistic situation, seems as if a 2c decrease in temp doesnt overcome the cost, maybe a shim would assist tho...still wondering...

Hmmm.... denting the copper? Something sounds really wrong there!

Haven't Alpha coolers been using copper plates in the bottom of their heatsinks for some time? Copper blocks are often used in watercooler setups and as cold plates for peltiers..... I've never heard of anyone mentioning this B4 with those systems!!

No idea, it comes from Japan, maybe they use a copper thats more pure and consequently "softer" ???
