Where do you do your computing/tweaking?

I compute/tweak/sleep (very important!) in my bedroom, best place. Two busted mobo's on the ground, half a floppy drive under a benbag, a 486with no RAM and an unusualy high mercury content somewhere, four spare harddrives, an old PSU, my Creative Labs CSW20s, my 15" monitor, a 28.8kbdp modem, a PCI lan card, an Etherlink III card, a 2x CD drive and, under my desk, Jade. Jade, of course, being my computer. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Anybody care to do a similar descroption? http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Well, I have the luxury of a dedicated computer room with 3 of my 4 PC.

All the spare parts (1 mobo, 2 vid cards, simms, 3 HD, screws, fans, tool kits, NIC, ...) are in several boxes... so no mess allowed in my room !

Alpha, That sounds like my bedroom that you described,ie: P-2 400 O/Ced of course, no cover on it,P-2 266 O/Ced to 300 without cover,printer,scanner,2 mice 2 keyboards,2 spare HDs,1 MoBo,3 vid cards,1 56k modem internal,1 28k modem external,1 AMD 100 chip never used,50 CD-RW cds new,and a 17" monitor, and to top it off there is an air conditioner in the windowthat the wife does not like at all,but my PC's like it.
Then there is the wife's system in the living room,K6-2-500 with 15" monitor, laser printer, and software, all nice and tidy.
But isn't it GReeeaaattt?

we are fortunate enough to have a dedicated computer room. we have a futon in front of the main computer desk which works great because it's nice and comfy. we have the other computers scattered about the room along with all kinds of parts to boot ... no pun intended. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
somehow we ended up with more monitors than computers and they are lined up against one of the walls along with a well stocked bookshelf and my "junk box" full of perf boards and other great stuff for my electronics experiments. as cluttered as that room is, it is probably the most comfortable room in the house! well ... maybe not THE most, but it's a close second!

One in the living room (yes, the living room) which is used for publishing, CD ROM copying, all my financial stuff and has the scanner and two printers (inkjet and laser).

One in my Ham Shack (I'm a radio amateur). It is my best computer. 400 Mhz, full tower, etc.

Two in an out building called "The Lab". One gets used most of the time. The other has no real use, but cost me so much that I hate to get rid of it. Works fine but who can justify two computers in the same room. NOT ME!

Started with my first system (PB) down in the basement, but it was too far from the kids, so moved the desk and system into my bedroom, which is on the main floor.

All parts stay in the basement, but I'm still using half of my bedroom and am running out of room...can't fit another table in here.

I guess in the next 6 months I'd like to move the whole works back to the basement because the kids are older now and can be trusted to wander http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

Then it will be a dedicated computer room with lots of space and I'll have a real bedroom again, too.

Description of half of my bedroom right now? It's not a pretty sight - tools, paperwork, case on the floor, parts around here and there......bed is made, though. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

I've got a room set up as an office, my desk in the corner, TV in another. Full tower on the floor, diagonally next to desk. Has cushioned top to serve as footstool. "Exec" high back chair. Spend most of my time kicked back, feet up, TV on in the background just to the left of the monitor.
Other than that, got shelves full of software, 2 bookcases (with books), a smaller desk with 2nd computer, file cabinet, 3 printers, and CLUTTER!!
For working on them, I've a table in the basement & a closet FULL of 'puters & parts!

Planning a remodel of the comp room this year. I've said it before, my other serious hobbies are woodworking & home improvement. Thus, am 3/4 finished building my new desk exactly the way I want it! Also doing wall cabinets, lighting, rewire...

While we're on the subject - a friend of mine is a contractor & recently did a home office job for an airline pilot. No holds barred. I saw it, they almost had to pull me out!!
$10K worth in a 10' x 12' rooom, no electronics included!!

I have a dedicated computer room, also. My Compaq and 486 in here and my 8086 in another room (trying to rent the room out). 4 open books on my floor, 2 floppys on the chair of my 2nd desk, old 8086 mobo, 33.6 modem, 2 vga cards, box of my "favorite" magazines in the closet, and 2 socks and 2 empty beer cans and one cat (Amadeus) on the floor. And I can see the T.V. from here! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Hello,

Well I am lucky, I have the luxury of a dedicated (small) corner of the living area for my computer activities. Now and then someone drops in and gives me advice what to do or not to do.
If I do a mistake that is because I wasn’t able to pick up the right advice among so many.

I've got my main system in my room, and I do all the tinkering on it in there, mainly because it's far too heavy for me to lug around. Tha case itself is over 70 pounds!

As for all my other work with computers and electronics, that happens in my laboratory in the basement. I've got 3 big workbenches, some monitors, my electronics equipment, and tools and parts everywhere. It's also where I keep all my free weights, so I can have something to do while whatever system I'm working on is busy chewing on something.

I compute from the luxurious and not too overly ostentatious confines of my home office (centrally located between my bedroom and the bathroom) where I routinely speak with the "Captains of Industry". These would be my three dogs: Angus, a mini-Schnauzer; Asta, a Wire Fox Terrier; and Daisy, a Yorkie! Others may have to suffer office politics and backstabbing, I put up with barking, growling and the occasional "walkies".

I have 8 PC's in this room, two more in a closet (the servers) and bookcases filled with books and hardware...and lots of toys of every description (I collect them!!!).

Life is good...

Tony

We also have a PII400 in a downstairs study. My computing setup used to totaly rock because I had the desk beside my raised bed, which has a hamock underneath, so I could lie in th hammock and play games!
