I understand when the MMX boards were made they would sometimes pass for 166,200 and 233 speeds, but we sold and labeled as a lesser priced and under-clocked machine. Is there a way I can clock-up with my Hitman/MBDSAC056AAWW(part number)board? My system is a P-166MMX(64MB ram) and if possible, would there be an increased heat problem due to overclocking? Thanks, Jim.

the P-166mmx is very good overclocker

i have one running @266mhz no lockups no bumb in voltage standard cooling

i cant find any info about your mobo
but look if there is any way to change the multiplier or FSB on the mobo and change it to a higher value

Where are the overclock switches usually located on the mobo and should I clock up incremently or just go for it. I read the hardware guide and really wasn't sure. I contacted Gateway support and they suggested not to overclock since there was a possibility of burning out the processor. What are your thoughts?? Thanks, Jim.

I have a old Asus board, I just set the jumpers on the board to see a 200mhz cpu and put my 166 in, been running at 200 for a month now with a standard H/F and no problems with heat. I miss the good old days of overclocking.

the 166 is running 2.5 with the multiplyer, you might have the old style jumpers and you can change that to 3 to get 200 or 3.5 to get 233.

I have a PI 200mmx(P54 core) that I got to 300 (100x3) 3.2v with an AAVID POS HSF.

just look and see if you can find the jumpers and start playing around. make sure you write down the positions so you know what to go back to http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif

So....what I'm hearing is go for it, regardless. Record the settings currently (so I can go back if I need to), then set the jumper to 3 for a 200mmx overclock(WITHOUT the need for a heatsink fan, right?). Will it stay at 200MMX then and will my BIOS autoboot this, or will I have somemore tweaking to do?? I read the hardware guide but that part didn't sink in well http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif. I just need a little more info to try this thing. First time that I will have overclocked and I hope it doesn't fry my mobo, but with all my systems crappy performance issues I've gotta try something. Thanks for all the good info. Jim.

my PI 200 at stock speed doesnt need the fan on the top of the sink, although it does get very warm and I would suggest puting one on to prevent overheating. you can jumper it to 200 without adding any extra juice.

Thanks guys. Haven't tried o/c yet. Have problems with my hdd and OS. When I get it straightened out, onward to the overclocking.
