best way to test peltiers for cold side?

Give me some good methods for testing peltiers before doing the mounting. I really wouldn't like to burn them up and would like to mark the cold/hot side.

What do you think, a 6 volt battery? Couple of D cells?

give them 2 sec worth of 5v while holding them between your fingers, you will be able to feel the temp diffs from that easily....

I gues that a 2-3 Dcell Batteries should be enough voltage to test the temp without chance of frying the peltier.

I figure about 3 volts should be enough to tell with out wasting the skin on my fingers.

Finally got some free time to work on the overclock.
