I just downloaded mandrake linux 7.0-2. It was 640 MB. The largest file I've ever attempted to download. It took about seven hours. I can't believe that it came down successfully. I used getright with segmented downloads, but I still couldn't believe I finally got it. Next step burn it to CD and install it my dual booting server.
Anyway, I was wondering what the largest file you have downloaded was? and how long it took you?

PS. I'm connected through a 10baseT LAN, but the download speed isn't that great. The network isn't run very well.
my biggest download was a VCD of Saving Private Ryan, i have the DVD, of course, i was just backing it up since i have a normal DVD player, not a DVD ROM.

This is over a network so I don't know if it counts. It is 10baseT though...
1.6 GB of data that included 52000 or so (literally) 2 to 8 KB images of cells.
I don't know what my largest dl was fromt eh net. We have T1 lines at work so...

Yup, the new Mandrake is definitely the biggie.
this makes me recall when i bought my first puter and i asked the sales rep if 540mbs would be enough space, and his comment was you will never use that much up in your lifetime......how things have changed http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

I believe that Linux Slackware was my largest download. I got every disk set, including the useless extra utilites and programming apps. I believe it was near 1.2gig. Back in the day, I did this on a 28.8 modem (want to guess how long that took? http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif ).

For links to download Linux, here's the official page:
http://www.linux.org/dist/ftp.html
Or if you want a cheap copy:
http://linuxcentral.com/
They have Slackware7 and Mandrake7 for $1.95 US plus s/h. They have other releases available, too.
