I'm trying to set up a computer controlled presentation system which will need to interface with a capture card to capture display video (from external source) in an arbritrary window. This is not rocket science. I've done similar systems before (ages ago) under Win 3.1. Back then the common application programming interface (API) for most video cards was 16 bit MCI (Media Control Interface). Of course this no longer works under NT.

The question is:

Is there a common API that is supported by a lot of video capture cards - I can't find any with 32 bit MCI drivers. Every manufacturer seems to use a different API, but I need this to be supported on various different hardware.

Video for Windows is my only other option at the moment but it's really not very good.

Anyone help?

are you talking about a common driver.. or a set of API's any video hardware can use.?
If the later is the case then.. learn how to use DirectX Media

Are you talking about Graphics Cards or Video (e.g. S-VHS) Capture Cards? I can't find any explicit reference to DirectX compatibility with any of the Video Capture Cards I have been looking at. If you are talking about Video Capture can you suggest some hardware?
