Hey boys n girls...
Haven't been here in a while, but I have a problem, and this is the only place I know that has people who could solve my problem.
Existing system:
P2/266 (not overclocked)
128M PC100
Asus P2B, 1012 BIOS, BX chipset
Just picked up a P3/700 FC-PGA 100 bus processor (boxed) and slot adapter. Machine won't boot with the new processor. Yes, I changed the jumpers to 7 multiplier and 100 bus.
Any ideas?

Did you change the voltage on the slotket? Because the voltage may be too high, which would create a lot of heat, which = failure. Also, your motherboard may not support the low voltages of the new coppermines, in which case you would have to change the voltage on the slotket to the lowest voltage available (probably 1.8). This is okay, since the stock voltage of that chip is 1.65. 2.00 is a different story though... Also, did you put thermal grease between the heatsink and processor?
Yes on the thermal grease. No jumpers or anything to adjust on the slotket. BIOS says the 266 runs on 2.8 volts

I have a p2b-f mobo and your is likely similar in what it can support. With the latest bios update the max cpu speed supported is 667mhz. Sorry but you going to have to return that cpu because it will NOT work with your mobo.

Even with the bios thingy, I'd still say there's a chance of it working.
Ok, what slotket adaper did you get?? If it's an FC-PGA -> slot1 adapter (which it needs to be for that cpu) make sure the jumpers are set for FC-PGA.
As I said two posts ago, there are no jumpers on the slot adapter. There are two spots where it looks like jumpers were at one time, but on mine the posts are removed and the connection is soldered. One just says "JP4" and has "pins" 1 and 2 soldered; it's on the left side of the processor; the other is on the top right corner and is labeled "AUTO/OVERCLOCK" and is soldered in the "auto" position.
I'm going back to the show today. I'll either find an adapter with the jumpers on it or pick up the Asus CUBX motherboard (hopefully I can get away cheap and get the right adapter!)
