is anyone using slot 1 golden orb? i got slot 1 board and i picked up a slot 1 gorb and really like how it attaches to secc2 cartridge. just slide clip on and all done. no twisting and sweating like with fcpga. but i realise that fcpga slot is the future so so need to talk about that. question is: is the slot 1 gorb as good at cooling as socket 7 gorb. the reason i am asking is because the orb shaped heatsink sits on the middle of a flat plate which in my opinion should have some sort of heatsink(fins) on the bare plate like the gorb slot A version. just wondering why they didnt do that for the slot 1 since the flat plate will also absorb heat but in my opinion will no dissapate the heat effectively as compared to having some fins on the side like the slota version. any thoughts?

do you have a katmai slot 1 or fcpga slot one?
if it is fcpga then there is no need to cool anythign but the processor since cache is ondie

i have katmai slot 1. so if you look at what a slot 1 gorb looks like, it has a flat plate attached to the main heatsink core. my question is about the flat plate and the lack of fins on the flat plate. whether that might hinder cooling. take a look at the gorb slot a version. you can see the difference

Well, I guess you'll just have to try it out and see for yourself. Since it does cover the area where the L2 cache is, it will take up the heat, which will eventually get over to the circle. How well this works, you will just have to see. As for the slot A, it does have those pins, probably because it gets a lot hotter. BTW, did you use thermal grease?
